Phillips 66 Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor, Rodeo Refinery in Rodeo, California

The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor, Rodeo Refinery coordinates and supervises the repair, servicing, operation and licensing of the refinery’s mobile equipment fleet, including trucks, forklifts, cranes, vacuum trucks, other heavy motorized equipment and garage. This position works under the general direction of the Maintenance Services Superintendent, assuring maintenance and project work complies with applicable safety, government, licensing, engineering, safe practice standards, laws, regulations and satisfies company policies procedures and specifications.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Actively participating in the safety process assuring work plans comply with applicable government regulations and company policies and procedures.

  • Communicating effectively with all leadership levels to resolve scheduling, priorities, and other areas of concern between Crafts, Operations, Maintenance and other departments.

  • Reviewing, preparing, and executing maintenance work orders to ensure work is completed in a safe, environmentally- compliant, timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Ensuring company vehicles and heavy motorized equipment records, licensing, and maintenance logs comply with applicable standards and DOT regulations.

  • Reviewing work prior to start and ensuring materials, resources, information and tools are on hand to achieve high levels of craft productivity.

  • Initiating requisitions for required materials, tools and contractor services, as required.

  • Exhibiting proficiency in planning, organizing, and executing daily maintenance, emergency and project work.

  • Coordinating with and making recommendations to department supervision and Scheduler regarding projected maintenance needs and requirements to facilitate scheduling contractor staffing and resource utilization.

  • Working collaboratively with Scheduler to re-distribute staffing, as needed for emergency work requests.

  • Contacting and coordinating contractors for a wide variety of services including but not limited to facilities and logistics support, rigging, and fleet vehicle maintenance/repair.

  • Training, mentoring and motivating Phillips 66 hourly mechanics to promote/develop a High Performing Organization.

  • Sharing knowledge, skills and expertise with others for safe and efficient job performance.

  • Effectively managing employee relations matters (including discipline) within established policies and programs.

  • Performing individual and/or team investigations on near misses, incidents or injuries that occur within the refinery, ensuring causes and corrective actions are identified and assuring resulting action items are completed.

  • Knowing and consistently applying company policies, procedures and contracts.

  • Sharing in maintaining Maintenance Department budget.

  • Reviewing invoice documents for accuracy prior to final approval.

  • Reviewing and approving Phillips 66 hourly mechanic’s time.

  • The Heavy equipment Maintenance Supervisor acts as a SME for Crane and Rigging work refinery wide.

  • Developing or modifying Critical Lift Plans, or safety procedures individually or as part of a team.

  • Inspect and approve lifting equipment as per manufactures recommendations.

  • Develop lift plans and provide field guidance on all crane lifts as assigned.

  • Perform crane post assembly inspections as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Must be at least 18 years in age.

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • 5 or more years of refining/petrochemical experience.

  • 5 or more years of experience in Heavy Crane lifts including critical lifts and crane inspections.

  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Willing and able to acquire training and experience to become a Crane/Rigging Qualified inspector.

  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC); information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic.

  • Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:

  • Travel up to 5% of the time.

  • Be on call 24/7/365.

  • Read/interpret technical and job-related materials in English.

  • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height.

  • Work extended hours including weekends, holidays, and day/night rotation, as needed.

  • Work in confined spaces or at elevated heights, as needed o Work on an on-basis as assigned.

  • Work around chemicals including acids and bases.

  • Wear fire resistant clothing and other personal protection equipment such as steel-toed boots, ear/eye protection, hard hat, gloves, etc.

  • Maintain clean shaven face each day to assure respirator/face mask can properly seal.

  • Perform firefighting and/or emergency response duties, as assigned.

  • Work in and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Work with/around hydrocarbons under high pressure and/or heat.

  • Lift up to 50 pounds, as needed.

  • Perform all general physical criterion which includes, but may not be limited to, walking, standing, bending, climbing, squatting, lifting, and stooping.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years of experience in leadership or supervisory role.

  • Previous turnaround experience.

  • Previous SAP and CMMS experience.

  • Previous experience managing departmental/project budget.

  • Class B license with DOT endorsement for Hazardous Waste handling and Passenger transport or the willingness and ability to obtain within 3 months.

  • Class A license.

  • ASE certification.

  • Self-motivated, proactive, creative, results oriented.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to interact with all levels, diverse groups and people.

  • NCCCO certification.

The Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex is a state-of-the-art facility processing renewable feedstocks (waste oils, fats, greases, and vegetable oils) to produce vital transportation fuels, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuels for California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $112,500 – $ 140,000 depending on a candidate's relevant work experience and education.

This position is eligible for the Phillips 66 geographic differential pay program. Details and terms to be conveyed in offer of employment.
