TLC-The Treatment and Learning Centers Teaching Assistant - Middle School in Rockville, Maryland

The Katherine Thomas School Program serves students in grades K-8 with language and learning challenges, autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or other health impairments. KTS has an opportunity for a few full-time (10-month position) Special Education Middle School Teaching Assistant beginning with the 2024/2025 school year. Teaching Assistant position responsibilities include:

  • Assist teachers in implementing content area curricula

  • Guide and assist students in the classroom in following the teacher’s instruction and school/program rules

  • Provide necessary accommodations to meet individual, group, and program needs

  • Create a supportive learning environment

  • Implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

  • Document student progress through written notes and narrative reports

    Required Experience for the Teaching Assistant:

  • MUST have a Bachelors Degree

  • Experience with students with learning disabilities, Autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or other health impairment preferred

  • Knowledge of education and behavior management methods, procedures, and techniques helpful

  • Must be reliable, maintain a professional attitude, and be team oriented

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly

As a condition of employment, all new hires are required to have received at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. New hires must receive any additional vaccine doses in the appropriate timeframes to be considered fully vaccinated and submit weekly test results until they are fully vaccinated. Requests for religious or medical exemptions will be reviewed and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
