Job Title
Scientist - Downstream Process Development
Catalent Cell and Gene Therapy is looking to recruit a Scientist - Downstream Process Development to join our growing team in Rockville, Maryland.
In this position you will work in the development and implementation of purification processes for multiple projects entering the Catalent Cell and Gene Therapy pipeline. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge, initiative, and scientific commitment.
The role is critical to our patients. We develop manufacturing processes for life-changing therapies with patient safety in mind, executing with efficiency always. Quality, safety, and on-time delivery is a must to be successful in this role!
The Role
Develop and characterize purification processes for the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals, including gene therapy targets in early and late stage clinical development.
Be responsible for downstream process development of protein, viral vector, plasmid from mammalian cells, insect cells, or microbes.
Generate research grade viral vector or plasmid materials at large scale.
Make observations, analyze data and interpret results.
Maintain accurate records of experimental results, review, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
Train, supervise and manage junior Associate Scientist
Prepare/make presentations at internal and external project team meetings.
Prepare/review development reports and technology transfer documents.
The Candidate
M.S. in Life Science or Chemical Engineering with 5-7 years of relevant experience OR Ph.D. in Life Science or Chemical Engineering with 1-3 years’ experience in the Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical industry.
3-5 years of relevant experience in protein, viral vector, or plasmid purification.
Hands on experience of AKTA chromatography systems and UNICORN software, and in chromatography column packing.
Proficiency in protein, viral vector or plasmid purification principles and methods including different modes of chromatography, centrifugation, normal and tangential flow filtration, depth filtration, virus removal and inactivation steps.
