TLC-The Treatment and Learning Centers Community Resource Advocate in Rockville, Maryland

T he Treatment and Learning Centers in Rockville, MD is looking to hire Community Resource Advocates to assist adults with disabilities in the community. The hours vary and will include some evenings and weekends. Go home every night knowing you have made a difference in a person’s life. Share what you see with others and make a difference! Community Support Specialists teach, encourage, and support people with disabilities to live rewarding lives. EOE

Responsibilities of the Community Resource Advocates:

  • Helping people to learn basic skills with cooking, budgeting, and household chores (cleaning charts, grocery shopping)

  • Assisting people in accessing educational or recreational opportunities in the community (movies, museums, live shows, sporting events, karaoke, physical fitness)

  • Connecting people to community resources such as medical, housing or transportation

  • Some evening and some weekend work will be required

  • A company car will be provided to all staff when they are supporting individuals

    Requirements of the Community Resource Advocate:

  • Must have an Associates degree. Direct work experience may be substituted for educational requirements

  • Experience working with individuals with brain injury, neurological impairments, and developmental disabilities preferred

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record and have a car

  • Computer literacy is required

  • Must have ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge about disabilities, including disability and privacy laws

  • Ability to communicate effectively with consumers and staff, exhibit effective customer service skills, promote consumer self-advocacy skills and counseling skills

  • Ability to provide well-written and comprehensive documentation

  • Must be highly organized, able to demonstrate effective time management skills

  • Must be able to work with a team and support team members

As a condition of employment, all employees are required to have received at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. New hires must receive any additional vaccine doses in the appropriate timeframes to be considered fully vaccinated and submit weekly test results until they are fully vaccinated. Requests for religious or medical exemptions will be reviewed and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
