University of Rochester Telecomm Tech I in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Manages daily logistics for the UR Tech Store, IT Equipment Recovery Program and Al Sigl Warehouse under direct supervision. This includes managing inventory and monitoring stock levels. Performs voice and network installs and repairs following the University’s processes and procedures. Adapts to an ever-changing environment and demonstrates professionalism, technical capability, and customer service skills consistently. Responsibilities include following established escalation and trouble-shooting procedures. Uses University owned test equipment, tools and vehicles while following appropriate safety standards and procedures. A valid NYS driver’s license is required.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Facilitates technology Store deliveries to University departments and affiliates within a 20-mile radius of the warehouse, utilizing The University fleet of vehicles. Moves store between technology store locations. Maintains control of products until deliveries are completed. Secures used equipment to minimize University risk to potential data breaches. Handles signature sign-off process to complete documented deliveries and delivery attempt documentation.

  2. Develops driving routes to maximize efficiencies and time management. Ensures delivery schedules are met and manages daily delivery priorities and critical needs. Prioritizes delivery of product associated with turn-around time and criticality of deliveries.

  3. Abides by the daily scheduling needs while following security/safety protocols and driving requirements. Utilizes provided carts, dollies and safety support devices to ensure potential for injury is minimized. Assists and supports warehouse-scheduling anomalies caused by peak work demands or unexpected staff shortages.

  4. Assists in monitoring and documenting inventory levels and escalates to a senior team member or manager when appropriate. Assists with management of the IT Asset Recovery Program and mailbox, including pick-up time and place coordination and confirmation.

  5. Performs moves, adds, change requests and trouble tickets submitted by University departments related to telephony, data service, extended networks and special applications under general direction of senior technicians.

  6. Participates in on-call rotation duties involving ad-hoc call-ins, critical repair and critical install work to support scheduling requirements and daily demands. Works with remote technical and engineering resources to trouble shoot and remedy after-hour service problems involving overtime and after hours issues, including system upgrades and emergencies

  7. Handles high visibility situations and critical customers at any given time. Negotiates effectively and reinforces customer service.

  8. Keeps abreast of current telephony, network and LAN technologies and expands knowledge through continuing education, journal review, web searches, on the job training and formal seminar opportunities.

  9. Abides by driving requirements and monitors vehicle performance. Reports issues to management for remediation. Follows safety guidelines to prevent injuries to self and others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Minimal experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience; 1 year of customer service related work experience preferred. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Safe use of hand tools and test equipment; Physical ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds and transition through different workspaces throughout the day; Ability to work in confined spaces, such as closets, ceilings, crawl spaces, pipe chases and mechanical rooms.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $18.10 - $25.35 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
