O'Connell Electric Company Senior Estimator-Commercial Electrical Construction in Rochester, New York

O’Connell Electric’s Senior Estimators hold important leadership positions within the company. This role is not only responsible for producing comprehensive estimates for commercial electrical projects, but also mentoring and developing less experienced estimators for career growth and success. As a Senior Estimator, you will be at the forefront of our project bidding process, utilizing your extensive industry knowledge and experience to accurately assess project requirements and costs.Core Responsibilities:Thoroughly analyze project plans, specifications, and electrical blueprints to determine the scope, materials, labor, and equipment requirements.Conduct site visits and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to understand project intricacies and constraints.Lead and mentor the estimating team, providing guidance on best practices, industry trends, and estimation methodologies.Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for complex commercial electrical construction projects.Personally manage complex and high-profile project estimates, including those with unique technical challenges or high financial stakes.Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing for materials and services.Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.Evaluate subcontractor bids and negotiate favorable terms and pricing agreements.Work with project managers and financial teams to create project budgets and financial forecasts.Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success.Prepare persuasive and detailed proposals for clients, highlighting the company's capabilities and competitive advantages.Stay up to date with local, state, and national electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards.Ensure that all project estimates and plans comply with relevant codes and regulations.Maintain comprehensive records of all estimates, proposals, and project-related documentation.QualificationsDegree in electrical engineering or construction management, or trade experience is preferred but not always required.At least five (5) years of experience in electrical construction estimating.Proficiency in construction estimating software and advanced Excel skills.In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and industry best practices.Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.Strong leadership and mentoring skills.Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.Detail-oriented with a keen sense of accuracy.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Experience assembling and leading teams, and effectively delegating tasks.Demonstrated experience training, coaching, and mentoring junior employees.In-depth understanding of industry trends, market dynamics, and cost-saving strategies.Ability to independently estimate multi-million-dollar electrical projects.Ability to develop and present detailed proposals and qualification packages for large, complex projects.Ability to analyze projects and present value-engineering opportunities.CompensationThe minimum and maximum annual salary (or hourly rates) that O’Connell Electric Company believes in good faith to be accurate for this position at the time of this posting is $95,000 - $115,000 per year.It is important to O’Connell Electric that potential candidates for this position understand that compensation depends on numerous factors including the geographic location where the role will be performed, skills required, experience, complexity, travel, and market rate.
