University of Rochester Retail Optical Asst in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Order all contact lens and manage all contact lens responsibilities is regards to patient insurance, billing, payments, and scheduling at the Medical Center location as well as off-site locations of the Flaum Eye Institute. This person will be required to travel to multiple locations. The individual fulfilling this position acts with a moderate amount of autonomy and independent decision making.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Orders all medical and soft contact lenses by accurately specifying lens parameters; verifies lens specifications on delivery prior to patient notification; maintains database of lenses ordered and received. Maintain contact lens room; stock trial kits and restock inventory and dispose of expired inventory; audit and order trial lenses and all other contact lens supplies as needed as well as Medical Contact Lens supplies.

  2. Responsible for collecting all contact lens charges from the patient. and submitting to billing department. Reconciles and process invoices with statements while monitoring credits and exchanges.

  3. Obtains insurance pre-authorizations as needed and contacts patient prior to appointment if any problems arise. Verifying insurance benefits to cover Medical lenses and notifying patient of cost. Confirm with patient on charges for upcoming appointments and services performed to help accurate billing

  4. Answers correspondence, and other inquiries. Call patient to schedule appointments in eRecord for contact lens pickup and fitting with Optometrist; confirm patient appointments and assist in ensuring patients arrive to correct location for exam.

  5. Processing lenses after arrival and prior to patient pick up (cleaning)

  6. Preform Insertion and Removal (I&R) training on contact lens patients. Educate patient how to insert and remove their contact lens as well as proper contact lens care.

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.

  • 1-2 years of customer service experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Self-motivated and organizational skills; Proficiency with computers

  • Demonstrates customer service, written, verbal and interpersonal skills

Pay Range

Pay Range: $16.50 - $21.45 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
