Function of Position:
The Coordinator, Paralegal Program, reports directly to the Chair of the Law/Criminal Justice/Homeland Security department and is responsible for the vision, planning, management, development, and delivery of the Paralegal program at Monroe Community College that is certified by the American Bar Association. This position is also a division and college representative on several committees and organizations related to paralegal studies.
This position will have a teaching load of 12 FCH per academic year.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinator Responsibilities:
Maintain American Bar Association (ABA) Paralegal Education Programs Guidelines and write and submit reports meant to maintain the ABA program approval at MCC.
Lead the Paralegal Advisory Committee.
Develop internship opportunities.
Work with the College marketing department to market the program.
Design and implement a selective admissions process.
Oversee student admission and registration.
Develop, implement, and revise program courses.
Hire, train, and evaluate adjunct instructors.
Recruit and advise students.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Teaching Role (12 FCH)
Demonstrates and maintains current subject area knowledge
Teaches courses and evaluates student performance as per guidelines set by the department and Monroe Community College
Teaches multiple courses/sections each term, as outlined by the contract
Prepares lesson plans and creates instructional materials and activities for student engagement
Prepares Course Information Sheet/Syllabus/Outlines in accordance with department and College guidelines
Establishes and maintains an engaging and supportive classroom environment
Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other records according to department and College guidelines and submits them in a timely manner
Maintains office hours according to contractual guidelines in order to support student learning
Advises students concerning academic, career and related issues according to contractual guidelines
Assists department with student recruitment, enrollment, and placement
Assists department with student retention and completion initiatives
Assists with development, review, and revision of department curriculum, including assessment of student learning and program review
Develops innovative teaching pedagogies to facilitate learning
Incorporates high-impact teaching practices into course design
Attends department meetings as a contributing member
Contributes to the College through Division, department, and College committees
Actively engages in pedagogical and academic discipline professional development
Assists department in faculty recruitment and peer evaluation
Assists in the development of grant proposals and implementation of grant projects
Works independently and in a team setting, demonstrating excellent time management skills to prioritize workflow and multi-task
Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the department chair

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
Five years' work experience as an NYS licensed attorney
Experience working with and supervising paralegals or legal assistant
Teaching experience.
Strong writing and organization skills
Evidence of team-oriented, participatory nature
Human relations skills to work effectively with diverse internal and external clientele.
Commitment to continued professional growth.
Evidence of proficiency with technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching at a college.
Prior experience as director/coordinator of a paralegal or legal studies program
Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $60,000 to $65,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
