University of Rochester Medical Technologist II in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY (RESPONSIBILITIES):

The Technologist is responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of patient samples (Serum/CSF) utilizing moderately to highly complex methods/instruments. Serology procedures are designed to detect the presence and/or level of various antibodies and antigens to various microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. While many Immunology techniques are similar to those performed in Serology, the Immunology section is dedicated primarily to the detection of various autoimmune markers and allergy testing for specific and total IgE antibodies. Due to the interpretive nature of serologic/immunologic findings, a fundamental understanding of the human immune response is necessary to ensure appropriate test interpretation and accurate reporting of patient test results. Candidates should be detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills. He/She is also responsible for routine maintenance of the lab and its instruments and equipment, routine quality control and adherence to all internal laboratory policies.

EQUIPMENT USED :

Standard and complex laboratory equipment, office equipment and PC and Lab Information System (LIS).

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Analysis of patient samples using various serologic testing techniques such as agglutination, IFA, PCR, and some diverse EIA platforms. Also included are sorting and organizing of patient samples for testing and storage, adherence to quality control and quality assurance protocols, reporting results of testing via LIS/instrument interface, as well as manual data entry. In addition to the above mentioned duties the candidate will also answer telephone inquiries, help maintain a laboratory stock of specific kits/reagents, perform daily/weekly/monthly preventative maintenance on lab equipment, and possibly participate in the training of technologists, residents/fellows, and medical technology students.

Educational Requirement:

Must be a NYS licensed in the Clinical Laboratory Technologist category.

Preferred : BS in Medical Technology with clinical laboratory experience and NYS license in the Clinical Laboratory Technologist category.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 31.50 - $ 40.95 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
