University of Rochester Medical Technologist II (NYS Licensed MT) in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Technologist is responsible for the timely and accurate test analysis using moderately complex methods and/or instrumentation in a rapidly changing and developing field. Reporting of results for patient samples is interpretive in nature. He/She is also responsible for instrument maintenance/standardization, daily quality control and adherence to all laboratory policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Analyzes patient samples using current, moderately complex laboratory methods/instrumentation (64%)

  2. Logs in samples, checks all requisitions for accuracy, manages informed consent issues. (10%)

  3. Adheres to quality control and quality assurance protocols (5%)

  4. Reports results of patient sample analysis manually in the LIS (5%)

  5. Performs developmental assays for the director of the lab (5%)

  6. Answers telephone inquiries (5%)

  7. Participates in the training of other technologists, technicians and/or residents (1%)

  8. Performs instrument preventative maintenance as scheduled or needed (2.5%)

  9. Performs method/instrument troubleshooting as needed (2.5%)

  3. Professional discretion with confidential patient results.

  4. Adherence to all laboratory safety procedures.

  5. Participation in continuing education.

Relationships/Authorities:

Technologists report to the Technical Specialists and Supervisors.

Generally works independently, seeking guidance from laboratory supervisors, Pathology residents and/or Faculty.

Education/Experience:

Must be NYS Licensed

Job Progression:

Level A: All techs remain at this level 1-year min. after completion of Training; continuing education credits required.

Level B: Will provide pool of people for Medical Technologist – Spec “grooming”

  • Complete 2 years min. at this level

  • Continuing education credits

  • Meritorious performance

  • Cross train to specialize in specific areas

  • Fulfill training requirements

Pay Range

Pay Range: $31.50 - $40.95 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
