University of Rochester Medical Technologist 1 (License Eligible) in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under the direction of laboratory leadership and with limited latitude for independent judgement, this role prepares entry level Medical Technologists to meet the competencies required to perform specialized testing and support for the laboratory section. With supervisory oversight, this position performs complex technical assignments, which are broadly outlined and require theoretical insight and interpretation. Within the confines of license eligibility and limited permits, this position exercises a high degree of skill and judgment and an understanding of the principles and methodologies of laboratory science. An understanding of instrument maintenance/standardization, daily quality control and adherence to all policies (Hospital and Laboratory) is required. Communicates with internal and external clients clearly and professionally. Reports to work at assigned UR Labs location/site.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under supervision, prepares and analyzes patient samples using current, moderately complex laboratory methods/instrumentation. Determine specimen integrity prior to analysis.

  • Under supervision, reports results of patient sample analysis using computer/instrument interface options.

  • Under supervision, performs instrument preventative maintenance and method troubleshooting scheduled or as needed.

  • Under supervision, adheres to safety, quality control and quality assurance protocols.

  • Under supervision, assist the supervisor in maintaining supply inventory and participates in special procedures.

  • Under supervision, assists the supervisor in writing and updating procedures as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Biology with an advanced certificate in Medical Technology required.

  • NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license eligible required.

  • Limited Permit (submitted to NYSED) preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $27.16 - $35.31 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
