Job Title: Medical Billing Specialist

Requirements: High School graduate; some college coursework preferred. Two years or more medical billing/coding experience in a physician/clinic/facility/hospital setting, with knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurances. Current knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT diagnostic coding classification systems. Must have strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and attention to detail. Must possess organization skills intertwined with the ability to multi-task, work independently and provide effective problem resolution. Must be computer literate, proficient in Word and Excel. Medical Billing and/or Coding certification preferred.

Summary/Objective: The Medical Billing Specialist supports the Finance Department and is the primary person responsible for charge entry, billing, payment posting, and claim denial research and correction for Clinic Services.

Essential Functions Imparts agency philosophy of Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential to children, families, program staff and community resources. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy. Processes monthly billing and prepares for submission to appropriate insurance companies in a timely and accurate manner. (May include charge entry for Article 16 & Article 28 Clinical services) Reviews remittances and post payments from insurance companies to appropriate claims. Generates monthly patient statements and processes their payments. Investigates claim denials and re-submits for processing in accordance with applicable regulations and insurance company requirements. Achieves program goals by performing additional duties at the discretion of the Clinic Billing Supervisor. Participates in Finance Department meetings. Participates in conferences, workshops and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development. Adheres to agencys policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
