Description of Duties

This position, located at the Department of Environmental Services, is responsible for leading and participating in the operation and maintenance of sewer collection equipment and systems. Duties include the operation, inspection, preventative maintenance, and repair of the laterals and pipes of a sewage collection system including working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and during emergency situations. In order to remain in the position the employee is required to obtain a New York State Class A Commercial Driver’s License during the probationary period with the employer providing sufficient training and road time to obtain the license. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of a Senior Maintenance Technician/Operator, Assistant Sewer Collection Supervisor, or other higher-level staff member. Lead supervision is exercised over operations and maintenance crews. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

(A) Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in all of the following: installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing sewer systems, one (1) year of which must have involved the operation of heavy equipment;

(B) Successful completion of thirty (30) college semester credit hours plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above which must have involved the operation of heavy equipment; OR,

(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

Possession of a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tank vehicle and air brake endorsements with the condition of obtaining a New York State Class A Commercial Driver’s License during the probationary period.
