Klein Steel Service Machine Operator I in Rochester, New York

General Description:

The Machine Operator will be responsible for operating one of the various automatic or manual machines to include, but not limited to Saws, Shear, Burn Table, Water Jet, and Laser, to produce quality parts to customer driven specifications. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, making mechanical adjustments as needed, and inspecting parts to customer specifications. The team member will be trained under the guidance of the Supervisor or safety trainer until proficient.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform precision machining operation to produce high quality parts by setting up, editing and operating designated machines. Perform basic machine maintenance.

  • Operate material handling equipment, including fork-trucks and overhead cranes.

  • Pick and pull material to load machines.

  • Perform first piece and periodic inspections utilizing work order, tape measure, calipers, and squares.

  • Correctly deburr, label, and package all products as required, and complete all required paperwork.

  • Maintain housekeeping and ensure work area is clean and well organized for on coming shift.

  • Must adhere to all safety rules and regulations. Attention to safety must be adhered to at all times.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working with steel and/or operating forklifts and overhead cranes is preferred.

Additional Skills and Experience Desired:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, work orders and procedure manuals as well as customer supplied blue prints.

  • Basic understanding of computers.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and keep up with the daily demands of production.

  • Familiar with lean and continuous improvement tools and their applications.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand and walk. The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The work environment is fast paced and team members must be willing and able to work in both hot and cold temperatures as they may occur occasionally in the warehouse.
