University of Rochester Lifelong Learning & Career Services Dir, Adv in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Director of Alumni Relations Lifelong Learning & Career Services is a key member of Alumni Relations & Constituent Engagement, a senior member of the Volunteer Networks and Programs team, as well as a member of the Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement leadership team.

The Director of Lifelong Learning & Career Services develops, plans, and oversees all aspects of three key programmatic areas including lifelong learning, career services and benefits and services. Strategic oversight includes setting goals and action plan in in consultation with the vice president and assistant vice president of Alumni & Constituent Engagement partnership with the Greene Center and academic units in Advancement and all schools at the University, and tracking, analyzing, and reporting on progress, utilizing data to drive program strategy.

As director, he/she will oversee 2 FTE staff that are responsible for lifelong learning, benefits and services, and career programs. In this role, the director will develop the strategy for all lifelong learning and career programs including the University’s online virtual connection platform, virtual career programs and digital resources, Career Coaches, the Mentorship Program, UR Travel Club, UR Book Club, Virtual Faculty Webinar Series, local and regional educational events. Extensive vendor relationship building, and customer service is essential in program outcome success.

S/he will manage the Lifelong Learning Advisory Council volunteer committee and oversee the management of Career Coaches, the Professional Affinity Networks, and the Mentorship Program.

S/he serves as an engagement liaison for the Gwen M. Greene Career Center and academic departments including coordination during Meliora Weekend, the University’s homecoming and reunion weekend and Volunteers in Partnership Leadership Conference.

Travel is required for this role.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning and team management:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for building and managing lifelong learning, career programs and benefits and services, with the explicit goal of increasing engagement within the University community across all schools and units aligned with engagement campaign via our four points of engagement: Go, Give, Help Connect.

  • Partner with Advancement colleagues and key campus partners (staff, faculty, and administrators) in development and management of additional opportunities to incorporate and brand lifelong learning, benefits and services and career programs.

  • Develop comprehensive goals and desired outcomes and track progress toward program goals.

  • Develop communications priorities and strategies for the program and work with Communications to develop annual communications plans to promote participation in this program.

  • Manage a team of 2 professional staff.

  • Manage a budget for overall program.

Academic Events

  • Develop program plan, recruit faculty, and virtual event logistics including managing communications, event marketing, post-event outreach and program evaluation for our signature virtual faculty lecture series, Experience Rochester.

  • Develop and manage the annual Rochester Forum event and Rochester regional in person academic events.

  • Partner with Regional Volunteers and Programs team to develop programs for regional in-person events featuring faculty members. Oversight of the strategy and implementation of UR Travel Club program including vendor identification and relationships, faculty identification, benchmarking and campus collaboration.

Career Programs and Alumni Benefits and Services

  • In coordination with the assistant vice president and senior associate director of career programs, develop and execute plan to increase engagement and expand professional resources including Career Coaches, Career Conversations, Virtual Career Resources, and the Meliora Collective a virtual online connection platform including the job board, group membership.

  • Partner with the Sr. Associate and Associate Director to manage the biannual Mentorship Program and matching.

  • Assess and report upon impact and value of all benefits and services, determine short- and long-term strategies to improve the program, and implement improvements as needed including insurance program, UR Virtual Book Club and on campus resources.

Academic Departments and Gwen M. Greene Career Center Liaison

  • Meet regularly with the Executive Director of the Gwen M. Greene Career Center to understand strategic initiatives to support student life experience and alumni volunteer engagement.

  • Develop relationships with Advancement school and unit staff to keep a pulse on key faculty and initiatives to highlight and utilize as part of Lifelong Learning programming.

  • Meet annually/biannually with department chairs alongside Advancement colleagues to understand and track departmental alumni engagement efforts, share Advancement’s engagement opportunities, and gain knowledge on key department faculty and programs.

  • Oversight of lifelong learning and career programs held during Meliora Weekend and VIP Leadership Conference; work with academic departments to coordinate Meliora Weekend schedule and programming opportunities, ensure topics and programming themes for signature and department programs provide a slate of strategically aligned topics. Plan and execute lifelong learning programs for Meliora Weekend and biennial VIP Leadership Conference. Support the strategic vision for career resources and programs during each of these program weekends.

Volunteer Engagement:

  • Manage the overall volunteer strategy and management of the Lifelong Learning Advisory Council (LiLAC) including recruitment, onboarding and training, communication, stewarding, recognition, and assessment of LiLAC’s impact.

  • Develop and coordinate meetings including scheduling, developing agenda and materials, and preparing volunteers.

  • Support and guide strategy for development of professional identity-based affinity networks and career coaches.

  • Meet with 20 constituents each fiscal year to increase engagement and identify, recruit and steward volunteers.

General :

  • Field miscellaneous inquiries from alumni, families, and friends.

  • Advise support staff and student workers on projects.

  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Volunteer Networks and Programs

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Master’s Degree preferred.

Required:

  • 7-10 years of alumni relations, advancement, academic programs, higher education, volunteer management, student activities, or comparable experience.

  • Outstanding communication skills, including direct interpersonal skills and strong writing ability.

  • Demonstrated experience in event planning and program development.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the needs and experiences of a diverse student and alumni body.

  • A demonstrated understanding, ability to work with, and desire to serve women.

  • Ability to analyze, condense and synthesize information and ability to provide accurate analysis and summaries.

  • Excellent organization and project management skills, with an ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with keen attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with, motivate, and lead volunteers and create, nurture and leverage partnerships. Ability to diplomatically overcome objections and effectively persuade key constituents.

  • Ability to work as a member of a team to accomplish objectives.

  • Experience with computer technologies and sophisticated software applications.

  • A general knowledge of institutional fundraising is also preferred.

  • A personal belief in mission, goals and objectives of private higher education and a desire to change the world.

  • Some travel; evening and weekend work.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $68,765 - $103,147 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
