Lead Cook

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Cook ensures that all health standards and regulations related to food service are met; maintains a cooking and serving environments that are sanitary and safe; prepares and serves nutritious meals in accordance with the standards of VOA, and relevant federal and state agencies.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Prepares and serves meals

  • Responsible for ensuring food service safe practices and cleanliness of the kitchen, including daily cleaning logs in completed

  • Ensures that the kitchen maintains a complete and properly-labeled food inventory, and uses food efficiently, minimizing waste

  • Ensures the ongoing cleanliness and proper functioning of the kitchen and all kitchen equipment in accordance with relevant regulatory agencies and agency

  • Develops menu plan/meals that meet the dietary needs for adults and children, and are in compliance with funder regulations

  • Ensures any changes to established menu is communicated and posted appropriately

  • Completes monthly quality control audits of the kitchen/storage and dining areas

  • Maintains resident confidentiality at all times and keep records in accordance with regulatory agencies’ and VOA’s guidelines

  • Helps residents understand and follow food service policies and practices

  • Orders food and oversees restocking of inventory as it comes into the facility

  • Submits invoices to Director / Finance in a timely manner

  • Completes training for auxiliary staff covering kitchen / cooking responsibilities

  • Works with the Director to develop and maintain kitchen work schedules for auxiliary staff support and emergency staffing coverage as needed

  • Assist in obtaining quotes as needed and purchases food or equipment necessary for operations or grant and contract compliance

  • Perform all PREA-related requirements as specified in agency PREA policies

  • Models agency values and core expectations

  • Assists with reporting of various kinds, as directed by supervisor

  • Ensures incident reports are escalated to supervisor immediately

  • Other duties as directed by supervisor.

  • Assists in the creation of annual budgets, and monitors all kitchen expenditures.

    EDUCTION & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3 years of previous cooking experience

  • Willingness to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed

  • Ability to pass a TB test and annual physical

  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
