University of Rochester Laboratory Technician III (S) in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

Summary

Full-time position in molecular and cellular biology laboratory focused on male reproductive medicine. Basic laboratory skills required including molecular and cellular biology and some biochemistry. Animal experience preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Background in bioinformatics desired.

Responsibilities

  • Management of clinical and research samples, documentation and organization of data. (10%)

  • Development and execution of experiments both independently and in collaboration with senior scientists in the group. (30%)

  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment, assistance in ordering materials for lab and preparation of some reagents/ media. Coordinate with Urology Laboratory Coordinator for budget management, purchasing of supplies and maintenance of regulatory guidelines. (10%)

  • Routine molecular biology and biochemistry analysis: Western and northern blotting, RNA isolation, RT-PCR, PCR, IF, IHC, tissue culture. (30%)

  • Animal breeding, colony management, animal surgery. (20%)

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience required in animal research (to include breeding, colony management, animal surgery), molecular biology techniques (RNA isolation, RT-PCR, Western/Northern blotting, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry), all aspects of tissue culture.

  • Candidate must be highly organized and detail/documentation oriented.

  • Competency in basic computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop etc.) is essential. Programming experience in R is desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication.

  • HIPAA, HSPP training/certification will be required prior to involvement with patient samples.

Andrology experience is preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 16.49 - $ 23.08 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
