University of Rochester Laboratory Technician II (S) in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supports the research laboratory through investigating how the brain controls movement of the body by training non-human primates to perform sophisticated movement tasks and recording the activity of nerves, cells, and muscles as the animals perform their trained behavioral tasks.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator.

BUSINESS/TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT USED:

Standard office equipment such as multi-feature ACD or smart telephone, PC, copier, printer, scanner, fax machine, and the like. Uses a variety of basic and advanced business/technical programs/applications. Includes systems such as MatLab, Offline Sorter, Microsoft Office, or internally developed databases/systems.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  1. Handle and train non-human primates for research projects. Plan and perform a variety of standardized laboratory tests, analyses and observations. Set up equipment and apparatus. Prepare tests, calculate and record results. (25%)

  2. Responsible for the maintenance of lab including removal of equipment and set up of new equipment according to direction to support the research projects of the lab. Clean and perform routine maintenance on equipment. (25%)

  3. Assist in data analysis and processing for the various projects of the laboratory. Assist in developing, devising or modifying methods and procedures. (25%)

  4. Assist in ordering laboratory supplies and providing clerical support for laboratory personnel. (20%)

  5. Other tasks as assigned. (5%)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Associate's degree in appropriate discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • Interest in neuroscience and experience with non-human primates preferred.

  • Ability to multitask, excellent organizational abilities, and the ability to work well as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills both verbal and written.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 15.38 - $ 21.54 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
