Sinclair Broadcast Group Investigative Reporter/Anchor in Rochester, New York

WHAM-TV and WUHF-TV is seeking a dynamic News Reporter Anchor for our evening newscast! The person we are seeking to join our on-air team will bring a unique combination of journalistic and broadcasting skills. In this role, you will provide content for our local multiple platforms (broadcast and digital) while maintaining a robust presence on social media channels.

The reporter/anchor anchors assigned newscast(s) and reports investigative stories. Strong on-air presentation skills are a must along with the ability to gather information and present news reports on air from the field and in the studio. The reporter/anchor will also provide engaging content for the station’s website and social media channels and must have the ability to shoot and edit video as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Sharp news judgment and editorial decision-making

  • The ability to effectively anchor from the studio as conduct interviews and gather information in the field.

  • The ability to generate his/her/their own investigative story ideas daily.

  • Gather and share distinctive content for assigned topics on social media channels throughout shift.

  • Investigate, report, and write significant stories under deadline pressure and appear on camera – both live and recorded.

  • Create editorial content for the station’s website in a timely manner.

  • Exemplary communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Must be able to shoot with an HD video camera and edit video using non-linear video editing equipment under deadline pressure.

  • Hours: Must be available to work all shifts, including evenings, overnights, holidays, early mornings, and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • College degree with emphasis on Broadcast Journalism or Communications preferred.

  • Four years minimum experience preferred including prior news reporting and anchoring.

  • Working knowledge of television news photography and technology.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Strong visual storytelling, creativity, organizational skills, digging for information, and resourcefulness desired.

  • The ability to work well with others is a must along with a positive “can-do” attitude.

  • Previous experience working in a team environment is a must.

  • Knowledge of the greater Rochester area is a plus.

The base salary compensation range for this role is $75,000 to $100,000. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates’ relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, vacation time, personal time, parental leave and employee stock purchase plan.
