University of Rochester Infection Preventionist 3, Amb in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for the prevention, identification, investigation, reporting, and control of health care associated infections and the day-to-day infection prevention activities for the Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH), ensuring the safety and well-being of both patients and health professionals. Provides education and leadership to clinical staff. Conducts surveillance and data analysis, infection prevention compliance monitoring and quality improvement. Ensures adherence to regulatory guidelines, NYS Department of Health standards, and programs as assigned by the Medical Director and Associate Quality and Compliance Officer (RN).

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Infection Prevention Planning:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention and control policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure consistent adherence to infection control measures.

  • Stay informed about emerging infectious diseases and changes in CDC and National Organization Guidelines; contribute to updating policies and protocols accordingly. Read relevant journals to keep current with Infection Prevention knowledge. Stay current on sterilization processes; educate clinical staff on sterilization process updates. Perform literature reviews to form evidenced based recommendations.

Infection Prevention Surveillance and Data Analysis:

  • Conduct surveillance and investigations to monitor the effectiveness of prevention and control strategies that are consistent with the organization's goals and objectives. Use statistical methods to design prevention and control strategies, analyze trends, and evaluate processes.

Infection Prevention Compliance Monitoring :

  • Perform rounding to ensure compliance and surveillance for any acquired infections using CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network definitions and may validate surveillance conducted by others. This includes breaks in CDC and/or NYSDOH Infection Control protocol.

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, reviewing, and revising the EIOH Incident Reporting Policy for patients and staff. Conduct orientation and training sessions on the requirements for reporting incidents.

  • Interpret, report and communicate standards and outcomes to appropriate shareholders.

Training and Education:

  • Prepare and present education materials to enhance Infection Prevention/Patient Safety. Review EIOH practices to ensure compliance with criteria for accreditation and other regulatory/quality requirements pertaining to Infection Prevention. Communicate lapses to area leadership and assist with recommending, developing and implementing a compliance plan.

  • Mentor and develop lower-level Infection Prevention/Safety designees in each area. Chairs the EIOH Infection Prevention Committee.

Quality Improvement:

  • Collaborate with the Associate Quality and Compliance Officer (RN) in the development, monitoring, auditing and improvement in infection prevention quality and safety measures.

  • Maintain current knowledge of issues in quality and compliance.

  • Join National Quality Alliance and implement data measures and follow up.

  • Develop and implement corrective action and is accountable for appropriate follow-up.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or health-related field.

  • Certification in Infection Control within 18 months of hire.

Preferred:

  • 3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Registered Nurse or Registered Dental Hygienist preferred.

  • Strong critical thinking skills.

  • Basic statistical analysis skill.

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.

  • Ability to interact with diverse groups, fostering collaboration and collegiality.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • Working knowledge of electronic medical records (ex. EPIC, axiUm) and management and/or supervisory skills.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $71,594 - $100,194 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
