University of Rochester Highland Hospital and Strong Memorial Hospital Well Newborn Nursery and Non-Acute Neonatal Intensive Care - Nurse Practitioner/Phy... in Rochester, New York

Responsibilities

A unique opportunity to join the URMC Neonatal APP team as a PNP, NNP or PA. As part of a growing and dynamic team, you will provide coverage primarily at Highland Hospital newborn nursery and special care nursery. Additional area of coverage and future opportunity to cover Strong Memorial Hospitals Well Newborn Service and non-acute infants at the Level IV Regional Perinatal Center.

  • Well Newborn and Special Care patients within Highland Hospital (HH)

  • Well Newborn and Non-Acute NICU patients within Strong Memorial Hospital (SMH)

  • Active teaching hospital with daily educational opportunities

  • Busy HH and SMH delivery service with APP attendance at high risk deliveries

  • Opportunity for future Level VI coverage and credentialing/ shift coverage in regional Level I and Level II newborn /special care nurseries if interested

  • Schedule flexibility available

  • 24/7 in-house Neonatologist coverage at the Level IV NICU

  • Extensive orientation program offered.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Care for well neonates and special care neonates independently with support from a collaborating Physician

  2. Care for non-acute NICU infants in collaboration with Attending Neonatologists, other APPs and Residents while maintaining a high level of autonomy to achieve desired patient outcomes

  3. Completes daily patient evaluations and assessments. Documents pertinent findings in patient record.

  4. Orders and interprets radiographic, laboratory and other diagnostic tests

  5. Obtain medical history and performs comprehensive physical examinations.

  6. Instructs and counsels patients and families in collaboration with other health team members.

  7. Performs routine procedures and emergency procedures.

  8. Umbilical line placement (UA/UV)

  9. Endotracheal intubation

  10. Circumcision

  11. Delivery room stabilization and management of neonates.

  12. Writes medication and other medical orders.

  13. Coordination and management of discharges

  14. Provide education for APPs on orientation, APP students, APP Fellows, Medical Fellows and Residents

  15. Identifies and participates in research and quality assurance activities, as needed.

  16. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Require a Master’s degree (or pending) as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active/pending New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant

Requires completion (or pending) of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active/pending New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current/pending national certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA ( National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)

NPs and PAs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relations skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $44.71 - $67.07

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
