University of Rochester Financial Coordinator III in Rochester, New York

POSITION SUMMARY:

Coordinates all aspects of financial arrangements for inpatient admission of transplant patients to SMH including outpatient services rendered before and after the transplant. Coordinates claims processing and payment application and/or authorization, including physicians' bills, for all foreign transplant patients and for all special transplant contracts such as the National Bone Marrow Donor's Program, and for all demonstration projects such as the national umbrella contracts. Responsible for the patient account from preadmission until the final bill is produced.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:

Monitors own performance on assigned responsibilities. May train and coordinate activities of peers or lower classified support staff as assigned to the Transplant Preadmission Unit in SMH Admitting.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Telephone, CRT, PC, photocopier, FAX, pneumatic tube system, adding machine/calculator, printer, plate-maker, imprinter, and other standard office equipment.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  1. Makes decisions using approved procedures and some independent judgement regarding security of high dollar ($100,000+) patient accounts and communicates these decisions directly to the Transplant Program Coordinators and the patients.

  2. Provides input for new procedures relating to admission and securing of accounts for transplant patients.

  3. Works with Program Managers to gain insurance approval for experimental and/or new transplant procedures.

  4. Obtains commitment from third-party payors to pay for transplant services.

  5. Maintains good working relationships with third-party payor representatives, Transplant Coordinators and transplant Physicians.

  6. Maintains transplant approval lists for after-hours use by the Admitting Office; may be on-call for same.

  7. Provides appropriate reports to management.

  8. Documents automated account record.

  9. Applies Hospital's financial and credit policies as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma and 4 years of related hospital credit services experience or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, Psychology, or related discipline and 1 year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Medical terminology required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 19.37 - $ 27.12 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
