General Description:

The Class A Driver drives a tractor-trailer to transport materials to and from specified destinations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pre-trip vehicle inspection, and delivery of metal material/orders via heavy commercial vehicle.

  • Unload products at customer locations, to involve climbing ladders, walking on top of a vehicle, attaching chains or guiding forks, and moving tarps as needed.

  • Verify load against shipping papers, and secure/tarp all loads as per Company policy and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

  • Maintain daily truck log according to state and federal regulations.

  • Maintain contact with Transportation Supervisor to receive delivery instructions and to communicate any delivery problems.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to existing, new and potential customers.

  • Communicate delivery times with customers.

  • Collect payment for delivered order, prepare receipts for loads picked up and reconcile truck shipping documents.

  • Assisting in loading and unloading truck as necessary.

  • Inspect truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water and maintain vehicle maintenance schedule.

  • Must adhere to all safety rules and regulations at all times.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); a minimum six months of Class A driving experience; flatbed experience is a plus.

  • Must have a valid and clean Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals as well as customer supplied blue prints.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of team members of the organization.

  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and keep up with the daily demands of production.
