General Description

This position is assigned to the Police Accountability Board and is responsible for supporting the development, promoting, and coordination of community engagement activities on behalf of the Board. Related work is performed as required.

This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.

A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.

Typical Work Activities

  • Assist in the coordination of community engagement activities to support the Police Accountability Board’s mission and values;

  • Establishes and maintains community partnerships and relationships with community organizations, groups, and key stakeholders;

  • Prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and presentations in draft and final form for review by supervisor;

  • Supports the drafting and editing of key external communication materials and written correspondence for the Police Accountability Board regarding community education and outreach;

  • Maintains a database of community organizations, publications/media outlets, and large events to assist with outreach opportunities;

  • Regularly conducts community outreach and education activities to increase awareness of the Police Accountability Board’s services and activities;

  • Supports the Community Engagement Manager in identifying, developing, and maintaining key partnerships that further the Police Accountability Board’s goals;

  • Supports the maintenance and monitoring of social media interaction on platforms to enhance communication and engagement with the public;

  • Regularly tracks, measures, and reports on all community outreach plans and activities;

  • Supports the Police Accountability Board’s missions and goals by completing other tasks and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or Equivalent PLUS:

Bachelor’s degree AND one (1) year of experience in community outreach, community education, social services, social justice, or other advocacy work (such experience may include work for health facilities, government agencies, community centers, or non-profit organizations).

OR

Four (4) years of experience in community outreach, community education, social services, social justice, or other advocacy work (such experience may include work for health facilities, government agencies, community centers, or non-profit organizations).
