University of Rochester Certified Pharmacy Technician Specialist - Oncology Inventory Control (WCC) in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

As a pharmacy technician, provides specialized support, oversight, and leadership in specified area. Has advanced knowledge of specific task or operation and assists in training, troubleshooting, and process improvement. Responsibilities and tasks are consistent with state, federal and local regulations; consistent with the functions of a pharmacy technician. Although a majority of their assigned duties will be in their specialized area, they will be assigned to other pharmacy technician duties as needed to support the department.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

TRAINING AND COMPETENCY for their specialty area

  1. Develops and maintain training materials specific to their assigned specialty area

  2. Coordinates and actively participates in training of new technicians

  3. Ensures competency is maintained and develops competency programs where appropriate

  4. Maintains documentation of completed training and competency

  5. Provides feedback to staff when issues are identified or additional training/information is required to improve performance with tasks/processes

PROCESS AND PROCEDURES for their specialty area

  1. Develops and maintains SOPs

  2. Maintains workflow and identifies opportunities to reduce waste of resources and maximize efficiency

  3. Actively seeks process improvement strategies and brings forward creative solutions

  4. Implements new procedures in conjunction with supervisor and/or pharmacy management

  5. Ensures all technicians are following proper process and procedure; provides feedback and remediation if necessary

  6. Provides data and metrics as available to management to monitor efficiency and efficacy of processes

  7. Creates and maintains downtime procedures published on line for all appropriate staff to access

TROUBLESHOOTING for their specialty area

  1. Able to troubleshoot all common issues with any software or hardware utilized

  2. Handles most complex issues and triages as necessary

  3. Contacts and coordinates with vendor field technicians or support as appropriate

  4. Always notifies appropriate staff, supervisors and management if the issue will impact operational workflow or if there are changes to the work process

  5. Outside of their specialty area, troubleshoot issues with commonly used pharmacy technology including eRecord, Pyxis, and CII Safe providing support to the department when able

  6. Outside of their specialty area, assists with handling of workflow issues in all areas of the department as an experienced technician

STAFFING

  1. Provides coverage to their specialized area on a routine basis, assisting in daily work flow and during downtime

  2. Consistently acts as a role model for team members, following all standard operating procedures, policies and regulations

  3. Maintains skills in other areas outside their specialty area to allow for staffing flexibility and assigned duties as needed

  4. Serves as a resource for other technicians, using their expertise and experience to guide decision making

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Able to complete other assigned tasks appropriate for certified pharmacy technicians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school education required. Required to be at least eighteen years of age at the time of application. Three years of experience as a pharmacy technician in related practice area preferred. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Computer Literate; Pharmacy Applications;Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the University; Individual must be able to multi-task, manage many details with accuracy, work under pressure, and maintain professional attitude; Be of good moral character including application of the ICARE values. Required to complete ASHP accredited training program or equivalent experience as a pharmacy technician or certification required from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program (Currently PTCB) and maintain ongoing education requirements.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 21.57 - $ 29.12 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
