University of Rochester Admissions Counselor I in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for attracting, encouraging and admitting to the University men and women who meet the standards set by University policy. Assists in the recruiting, application and evaluation process. Develops the knowledge of the University and its range of available opportunities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under general direction and with latitude for independent judgment:

  • Visits public and private secondary schools for the purpose of discussing the University with and interpreting the University to interested students, parents and guidance personnel.

  • Represents the University at College Nights and College Conferences, addressing groups of students, parents and guidance personnel. Coordinates these visits with alumni and other volunteers in travel area.

  • Interviews applicants throughout the year.

  • Responds to telephone and written inquiries from prospective students, parents and guidance counselors regarding specifics of University programs and policies.

  • Participates in special on-campus functions for prospective students, parents and counselors, such as prospective student receptions and counselor programs.

  • Develops and maintains current knowledge of financial aid for purposes of informing students, parents and counselors.

  • Reviews and evaluates all types of applications for admission. Serves as a voting member of the Committee on Admissions.

  • Develops expertise to provide guidance and academic and career counseling to high school and college students.

  • Serves as liaison, along with Director and Associate and Assistant Directors, between the Admissions Office and the academic advisors of each college for the purpose of departmental review of advanced-standing applications; and the Dean's Office of the appropriate College for purposes of review and readmission of applicants.

  • Assigns work, special projects and applications procedures to clerical support staff. Assists in the direction of student volunteers in various Admissions Office programs.

  • Is actively involved in research; develops and implements user knowledge of statistics and systems, including use of personal computers.

  • Keeps superiors and staff informed of applications filed, actions taken and admission deposits paid for assigned travel area. Prepares a strategic plan for travel areas and program responsibilities.

  • Assists in preparing the annual report of undergraduate admissions actions, assembling outputs and distributing them to appropriate staff members.

  • Assists in analyzing reports and preparing studies and data for other offices, departments and outside organizations.

  • Assists in the updating, revising and maintaining of mailing lists used by the office. Assists in interviewing candidates for employment in the office.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 20.92 - $ 29.29 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
