This position requires travel to multiple locations (Ashley Woods, Seabury Woods, and Episcopal Church Home)

The activities assistant will plan and coordinate programs and activities that are varied, reflect the interest, values and beliefs of the residents and provide life enriching opportunities for residents and the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Meet with residents to determine past and current interests and hobbies.

  • Determine preferences of residents.

  • Assist in the orientation of new residents to the recreation program.

  • Promote health and independence for seniors (65+) through wellness programs and community support. Plan, coordinate, deliver, and promote programs and wellness activities that are varied, reflect the interest, values, needs and beliefs of ESLC participants.

  • Provide physical (exercise), social, recreational, intellectual/educational, creative, entertainment, religious, service/volunteering programs and special requests of the residents.

  • Conduct and lead activities for Brentland Woods, Rockwood Center and Neighborhood Outreach.

  • Assist manager with planning and organizing special social events for Brentland Woods and Rockwood Center.

  • Communicate programs and schedule to residents.

  • Encourage resident participation.

  • Communicate all pertinent information to other staff.

  • Work cooperatively with other staff.

  • Treat all residents with dignity and respect.

  • Pursue professional growth through various media, workshops and seminars.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma. An Associate’s degree in recreational therapy or similar degree preferred.

  • Evidence of creativity.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Mature, pleasant, friendly and cheerful personality.

  • Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record and willingness to drive van to transport residents.

  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the general public.

  • Experience in activity planning with older adults preferred. Experience and interest in working with older adults.

  • Experience in public speaking and presentation preferred.

Performing duties of this job requires occasional walking and standing. Job also requires escorting and assisting residents on outings. Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The majority of essential job duties are performed indoors, in a normal office environment. Employee may be exposed to indoor temperature fluctuations and will be exposed to various outdoor elements when going on outings. This position may be required to provide direct care or have access to resident property or belongings.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP:The work is performed within established guidelines, and requires periodic supervision. The employee exercises some initiative and independent judgment to effectively perform the essential job duties of this position.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS:The employee has no direct responsibility for others.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:Shall be fully acquainted with all safety policies and procedures of Brentland Woods. Takes an active role in all fire drills during the shift and/or emergencies for internal and external disasters as monitored by supervisor and incident manager. Must comply with facility in-service requirements.

Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the organization, residents, participants, family and staff, that may be encountered, either formally or informally, during the normal course of business. This includes medical and treatment records, financial and human resources information.
