Responsibilities

A qualified Telecom Engineer candidate will have Wireless/Radio Frequency technology experience with mission critical digital mobile communication systems. This includes Paging/Messaging Systems, Antenna Systems, Transmitters, Trunked Radio Systems, cabling and couplers, using RF tools such as wattmeters and analyzers for coverage testing and troubleshooting. A GROL License/certification and a Minnesota Power Limited Technician license is desired.

The Telecom Engineer will design, configure, manage, troubleshoot, support and implement the Telecom Infrastructure. Will also perform limited project management with some coordination of efforts by various support staff. Communicates project status to project proponents. Under general supervision, participates in decisions on technical direction, architecture design, and product selection for the enterprise telecom network. Assists with the deployment of telecom technology. Exercises independent judgment. Under general direction works on complex technical issues. Provides input to short and long-term section strategy and budget planning. Receptive to new ideas and to learning new technologies. Plans and leads small projects and performs project management coordinating the efforts of internal and external staff with the customer and business needs. Works on projects and tasks with other team members and may be asked to provide input to their evaluations. Occasionally works under stressful conditions, participating in implementations and troubleshooting efforts that may have significant patient care and/or financial impact to the organization. May be asked to represent Telecommunications to committees at Mayo. In addition, the candidate will be part of a 24/7 on-call support rotation spread among the team members.

Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Also, Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 2 years professional technical work experience or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of professional technical work experience. A minimum of 6 years professional technical work experience required for individuals without a degree.Expert knowledge of telecom/network concepts and 7-layer OSI model is required. Knowledge of basic telecom/network management and monitoring tools. Basic understanding of desktop and server operating systems is desirable. Must be able to work with minimum direction and able to work effectively in a team environment. Must be customer focused and possess excellent communications and interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of personnel at various levels within and outside the institution. Good organizational and time management skills are required to handle the workload and track the various projects going on simultaneously. Solid analytical skills are also a necessity.
