Responsibilities

Mayo Collaborative Services (MCS) is a separate Mayo Clinic entity that offers a full range of laboratory testing, diagnostic services and support products to health care providers/institutions and the biopharma industry around the world. The MCS vision is to be the global leader in diagnostics, a groundbreaking industry partner, and relentless innovator. As an integral part of MCS, BioPharma Diagnostics provides a wide range of testing solutions to support research and development teams within the pharmaceutical, biotech, and in vitro diagnostics industries and their collaborators. This includes laboratory testing solutions, diagnostic development, and validation and biomarker services. Organizational Relationships:

Mayo Collaborative Services (MCS) operates as a cross-functional organization supporting several mature and start-up business activities. Today's environment, combined with future growth projections, demands a highly skilled individual who can represent the Mayo Clinic vision and values while rapidly adjusting to market demands and being accountable for the human and capital resources under their management. The Senior Director of Mayo Clinic BioPharma Diagnostics (SD-MCBPD) is a growth oriented and commercially minded leader that reports to the MCS Chief Administrative Officer, works in close collaboration with the MCBPD Medical Director, and serves as a key member of the MCS executive leadership team. As a member of the MCS Leadership Team, the SD-MCBPD will set the vision, strategy and direction for delivering value across the MCBPD service line. The SD-MCBPD will provide the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the service line achieves aggressive growth. The SD-MCBPD coordinates, communicates, and collaborates with peers responsible for MCS’s functional areas to include Finance, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Legal, Utilization and Integration Services, Business Analytics, Business Development and Laboratory Administrative and Medical Leadership.

Position Overview and Major Functions:

MCBPD is a critical and core component to the MCS portfolio of service lines. The SD-MCBPD is responsible for the aggregate performance of MCBPD. The SD-MCBPD, in conjunction with their medical partner, holds accountability for the vision and attainment of continued growth within the pharmaceutical research and development industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create an inclusive and collaborative culture that will drive the company to achieve and surpass sales, profitability and business goals and objectives

  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective accelerated growth strategies and processes

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and people designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of our organization

  • Build and lead a customer focused, well informed and engaged employee group who are able to communicate the value proposition and understand the company strategy

  • Set comprehensive goals for financial performance and growth

  • Lead, coach and develop the MCBPD team, holding everyone accountable for high performance and ensuring MCBPD has a pipeline of future talent

  • Build relationships and drive partnerships with the key clients and influencers in the industry

Key Performance Metrics:

  • Achieve revenue, volume, and margin targets for MCBPD

  • Development of annual operating plan and annually revised 3-year strategic plan for MCBPD

  • Development of a high performing service line team inclusive of key cross functional partners

Qualifications

Master's Degree in business, finance, science, or related field is required. This position prefers a minimum of five years of broad administrative/management experience in the biopharma or healthcare industry. Must show a proven track record that includes managing the implementation of business plans in a fast track manner within a complex market. It is essential to have excellent management skills and be able to communicate effectively both written and orally. The individual must possess excellent human relations skills to interact effectively with high level contacts within and outside of the organization. There must be a level of working knowledge in a broad range of areas relative to overseeing a business including: finance, operations, marketing, sales, HR, project management, and IT. The individual must be able to manage people and projects with deadlines simultaneously and delegate and exercise appropriate judgment when prioritizing projects. The individual must possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. They must have the ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of executive types in a variety of settings. The individual must be comfortable making important decisions in the best interest of the Mayo organization and accept responsibility for the outcome.

Additional Experience and/or Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strategic thinker

  • Ability to promote strategic alignment across a matrix organization

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity

  • Knowledgeable of applicable regulations and standards (i.e. ISO, FDA, CAP/CLIA, GMP, etc.)

  • Preferred prior experience in healthcare leadership/oversight or overseeing clinical trials and/or contract research organizations operations
