A Research Fellow position with Dr. Susana Cantero Peral in the Todd and Karen Wanek Program for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) center (https://www.mayo.edu/research/centers-programs/todd-karen-wanek-family-program-hypoplastic-left-heart-syndrome/overview) is now available. Research done in this center focuses on developing autologous stem cell-based therapies to treat patients suffering from HLHS and other left ventricle cardiomyopathies. The candidate will primarily work with two of the program’s research scientists.
The candidate will:
be involved in work with umbilical cord blood-derived mononuclear cells
optimize the effect of cardiomyocytes proliferation
will investigate underlying mechanisms of heart proliferation
assist in developing the new in vitro and pre-clinical studies
The successful candidate should:
have a Ph.D. in a biological or related field
have a strong background in cell/tissue culture, human stem cells, and large animal studies.
exhibit a solid understanding of study design, lab techniques, and equipment
have the ability to carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting.
have excellent communication and writing skills using the English language
exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills using the English language
be a critical thinker willing to express and defend their scientific opinions in a data-driven manner
display honesty, integrity, and the ability to work with a diverse array of team members
The candidate will be expected to provide regular briefings regarding all ongoing projects, present relevant data at national meetings, and publish it in high-impact journals related to the field.
A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic.

Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university's Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.
Please also be prepared that you may be asked to provide three letters of recommendation to the hiring PI prior to an interview.
Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
