Olmsted Medical Center Registered Nurse (RN) - Trauma Program Coordinator in Rochester, Minnesota

Description 0.3 FTE - Day/Eve Shifts Qualifications: Current unencumbered registered nurse license in the state of Minnesota Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certified Three years of clinical experience in trauma/emergency care Critical thinking and analytical, teaching/coaching, and research skills Job Responsibilities: Administration Interprets and implements policies and procedures related to trauma care; makes recommendations for revisions; assists with updating policies and procedures. Participates in the development and planning of goals and objectives related to trauma care. Coordinates with the trauma program medical director, trauma program RN manager, hospital administration, clinicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers (including, but not limited to lab, x-ray) on the policies, procedures, and protocols relating to the care of trauma patients. Represents Olmsted Medical Center's (OMC's) trauma program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster an optimal, fiscally-sound trauma program. Oversees compliance of hospital policies, procedures, and standards through observation, medical record review, staff feedback, and other appropriate sources. Program Initiatives Implements program initiatives. Monitors and maintains compliance with statewide trauma system regulatory requirements. Coordinates preparation for statewide trauma system designation site visits. Participates in state and regional trauma care activities. Monitors national and statewide trends in trauma care. Serves as a resource for the hospital staff regarding trauma care issues. Plans and implements strategies for ongoing trauma program development and improvement. Collaborates with the trauma program medical director, trauma program RN manager, clinicians, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to provide clinical and system oversight for the care of trauma patients, ensuring that efficient, quality, cost-effective care is provided. Quality Improvement Assesses and improves departmental performance. Monitors performance of hospital staff involved with the care of trauma patients. Monitors trauma patient outcomes and evaluates for trends. Participates in case review. Serves as the coordinator for the identification, investigation, reporting, and follow-up of incidents and quality issues throughout the program while maintaining confidentiality. Monitors the trauma team's availability and compliance with policies and standards. Assists in data collection related to the trauma patient. Ensures the periodic reporting of trauma data to the state trauma program. Clinical Education Plans, coordinates, and evaluates trauma-related education programs for nursing staff. Ensures that staff involved in the care of trauma patients meet educations requirements of OMC's trauma program. Develops, coordinates, and implements orientation, nursing education, and in-service programs related to care and management of trauma patients. Works collaboratively with nursing education coordinator to facilitate this education. Sees and pursues opportunities for internal and external trauma-related educational programs for hospital staff. Works with nursing scheduler to maintain staffing needs of department while staff is attending education. Knowledge and Skill Analyzes and interprets complicated information. Determines changes needed based on research, data, standards of care, and regulatory guidelines/protocols. Communicates effectively with a wide variety of internal and external staff and administration using both verbal and written communication.
