Responsibilities

The Boiler Operator/HVAC Technician is responsible for supporting the Mission and Vision of Ascension by maintaining and operating all HVAC equipment throughout the facility.

  • Essential Functions

  • Operate, maintain and repair HVAC equipment, including absorbers, centrifugal, cooling towers and air handling units.

  • Take readings on all equipment; power house, all mechanical areas. List readings daily on the Boiler Report Sheet.

  • Prepare boilers for seasonal inspection.

  • Repair and overhaul all steam equipment, valves and motors.

  • Perform preventative maintenance duties according to schedule.

  • Operate and maintain 120 PSI steam boilers and related equipment: Regenerate water softener, refill brine tank with salt Packs pumps and valves Blows down boilers. Perform boiler water treatment. Perform water analysis.

  • Operate and maintain Generator and Fire Alarm Systems and records findings.

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on building systems, including piping, electrical and repairs as necessary.

  • Monitor elevators for proper operation, contact service when needed.

  • Non-Essential Functions

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Current City of Detroit High Pressure Boiler Operator License, or equivalent at time of hire/transfer date required.

Education:

  • High school diploma required.

Work Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blue prints, schematics and manufacturers specifications.

  • Must be familiar with building maintenance techniques.

  • Knowledge of safety codes and practices.
