Adams Construction Company is one of the oldest asphalt paving firms in Virginia. Since 1946, Adams has participated in the construction of every interstate throughout Virginia and most of the primary highways. Throughout the Company’s growth in Virginia and into North Carolina, it has strived to maintain a family culture in a corporate world.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision of a road crew superintendent, perform flagging operations on a construction project and assists in traffic control to enhance and promote a safe work zone.

DUTIES \ RESPONSIBILITES:

  • May guide and direct dump trucks into workzone

  • Flag motorists to warn them of obstacles or repair work ahead.

  • May assist in setting out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic.

  • May drive pilot vehicle when necessary

  • Safely managing traffic through active work zones while standing, grasping a stop/slow paddle and utilizing radio communication.

  • Loading and unloading work zone equipment, sometimes weighing up to 40 pounds, to/from the company vehicle.

  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with fellow workers and the general public.

  • Flexible availability to include overtime and possible weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Have the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs

  • Able to understand and carry out verbal and or written directions

  • Pay attention to detail

  • Work independently in the absence of supervision

  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Flagger or Work Zone Traffic Control Certification

  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record

  • High school diploma/GED
