Southern States Cooperative, Inc Safety/Environmental Coordinator in Richmond, Virginia

*This position will be based out of the LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY Area* General Summary This positions primary focus is on ensuring Safety and Environmental compliance for a territory of locations. The position requires travel to the locations periodically to perform on site evaluations and provide feedback to the location manager. Providing solutions and guidance, training employees and monitoring systems to ensure regulatory compliance. Essential Job Functions Conduct Safety & Environmental inspections of SSC facilities some of which include Propane and Anhydrous Ammonia storage. Facilitate training sessions with employees on certain topics as needed Assist locations with regulatory reporting Work with regulatory agencies and management to address any issues that arise at facilities Attend industry conferences, training meetings and continuing education courses as needed. Assist with the investigation of leaks, spills, accidents, thefts, and other safety, security, and environmental incidents. Participate in committee groups for various initiatives as needed Must be an independent worker, able to meet goals and expectations, treat others with respect, strong verbal and written communication is important. Perform other duties as assigned. *This position will be based out of the LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY Area* *Qualifications Requires a Bachelor's degree, safety, environmental or agricultural designations or equivalent training/work history. Minimum three years of experience in safety or environmental work is preferred. Proficient in utilizing computers, mobile devices with app based technology, Microsoft office tools and be able to conduct meetings with others and make independent decisions. Must be able to work independently, meet goals, and be responsible and professional. Willingness to learn new things, obtain additional certifications, and have a positive attitude. Requirements Moderate overnight travel depending on base location. If needed must be able to get additional certifications and training for OSHA Work Environment This position will primarily be out in the field daily at our facilities conducting inspections and field visits. There will also need to be some office days in your home office. The home office needs to be well suited for virtual meetings and productive work While traveling may have contact with hazardous materials and drive/travel and work in adverse weather conditions. Physical Activities & Requirements While performing the essential job functions of this position, the following is required: Continuously balance, manual dexterity (fingers and hands), use hands in repetitive motion, sit, utilize eye/hand coordination Frequently stand, walk, turn and twist head/neck and back/waist, getting in and out of vehicles and equipment during inspections. Occasionally pull, push, lift, carry up to 50 pounds Must be able to speak to co-workers and customers regarding day-to-day business operations.
