ABOUT THIS JOB

The Accounts Payable Manager is an essential member of our financial management team. The manager oversees and coordinates accounts payable activities, budgetary and forecasting activities, adherence to various federal, state & local laws as well as company policies & SOX Controls, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts. The CarMax Accounting operates in a collaborative environment with uncompromising integrity and accountability, all while supporting company growth through collective expertise, cross-functional partnerships, and a mindset focused on continuous improvement. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an Accounts Payable Manager, you will:

· Oversee procure to pay activities while ensuring accounting accuracy, completeness, adherence to SOX Controls; manage resources appropriately to balance workload and ensure key performance metrics are met in a fluid environment

· Drive team performance by managing the on-boarding & training process, setting clear expectations, and measuring results; participate in the talent management process, including performance reviews, team & individual development

· Identify training, education, and upskilling needs within the team; deploy as needed to ensure operational targets are maintained as well as accounting policies and procedures are followed appropriately

· Collaborate with the team and business partners to identify, design, and implement process improvements for greater efficiency and effectiveness

· Oversee, support, and perform accounting activities, including month end close journal entries, account reconciliations and balance sheet fluctuation explanations; manage the monthly close process

· Analyze department metrics, including staff productivity and key performance metrics; recommend solutions to drive execution or improve performance

· Lead and participate as a subject matter expert for accounts payable in projects that span multiple departments and/or the company as new initiatives are deployed to meet business goals

· Assist the Senior Manager and/or Director with staff communications, issue resolution, goal setting, and maintaining fiduciary duties and accounting standards

· Ability to apply business and technical knowledge to produce results and make recommendations to Senior Leaders across the organization

· Ability to travel as needed

· Must be able to sit onsite, as requested, at CarMax’s Home Office in Richmond, Virginia

Internal Candidates: Successful completion of Entry MAP or MDP required

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, Home Office and have a Hybrid work arrangement

Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance preferred, or equivalent experience required

· 5+ years of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Internal Controls, Accounting Compliance, and/or a multi-state payroll environment, or equivalent experience required

· 2+ years of experience leading teams to achieve common goals, including managing the work of direct and/or indirect reports preferred

· Strong accounting skills including general knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

· Accredited Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable Manager Certification preferred

· Project management experience preferred

· Experience and knowledge in Cloud-based ERP solutions, Workday, robotics, OCR technologies, and various automations desirable

· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) required
