Old Dominion Brush Company (ODB) is accepting applications to fill the position of Machine Operator - Laser in the Fabrication department in Richmond, Virginia. Our Parent Company is the Alamo Group.

Position Summary:

Under immediate to moderate supervision, the Machine Operator operates fabricating machines such as press brakes, laser cutters, and other machinery as required, that cut, shape and bend metal plates for the production of an array of Old Dominion Brush Company Inc. products.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.

  • Positions stops or guides to specified length as indicated by blueprints, scale, rule or template.

  • Maintains fabricating equipment and makes adjustments to prepare equipment for safe and efficient operation.

  • Moves parts and/or work pieces manually, by hoist or forklift and secures parts using clamps, braces, etc. prior to machine operation.

  • Maintains production quantities, efficiencies and quality of parts fabricated.

  • Positive team-based attitude and a willingness to cross train on machinery in the fabrication department.

  • Ability to adhere to company safety expectations and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Must be able to use and read a tape measure, protractor, and various other measuring tools using both American and metric measurements and quantities.

  • Ability to handle large awkward parts weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted; additional weight assisted

  • Ability to operate a forklift

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

Ability to read and understand English

Capable of performing standard measurements. Ability to read a tape measure, protractor, square (in American measurements). Ability to use other measuring devices.

Ability to read drawings and sketches

Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment

Ability to work alone and as part of a team

Good math skills

Mechanical aptitude

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED certificate preferred

Minimum of 1 – 3 years of previous experience operating heavy production/fabrication machinery. Level of position will vary depending upon years of experience. Years listed are for entry level (Grade 1).

Experience with JD Edwards helpful

Working Conditions:

The following activities are required up to 100% of a typical workday:

  • Use hands or fingers to handle or feel

  • Reach with hands and arms

  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds without assistance

  • Lift, push, and pull 51 to over 100 pounds with assistance

  • Work near moving mechanical parts
