As a Lead Scientist , the successful candidate will define, lead, and execute technical programs focused on aramid, monomer, and related chemistries. Sustainability and green chemistry for developmental work is a strong component of the role.

This hiring initiative represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic empowered R&D team that applies an understanding of fibers, fiber surfaces, fiber finishes, fabric treatments, polymer science, ingredient chemistry, fiber physical testing and analytical chemistry.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Developing into a leader in aramid chemistries.

  • Defining, leading, and executing product and process research and development programs related to the new and improved products, including solvents, monomers, polymers.

  • Conducting experimental work and directing experimental work of technical associates assigned to programs.

  • Summarizing and recommending path-forwards based on experimental results.

  • Participating in cross-functional teams, technical and non-technical teams.

  • Partnering with scientists and other engineers to scale processes to commercial production.

  • Partnering with product stewardship and toxicologists to identify needs based on the changing regulatory environment and developing programs related to these regulatory needs.

  • Partnering with external vendors and partners.

  • Writing and communicating technical reports and presentations

  • Managing intellectual property (IP); understanding relevant IP and competitive landscapes and actively developing new IP.

This job may require travel up to 25% of work time.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry or related discipline.

  • Strong knowledge organic synthesis.

  • Industrial experience, 5-10 years.
