We have an immediate need for a Winder. In this Turbine Generator Mechanic (Winder) role, you will perform operations involving the inspection, disassembly, assembly, repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical components in Turbine Generators with emphasis on the Generator Rotating Field.

Job Description

Standard 2nd shift hours may flex depending upon operational needs: 3:00-11:30pm (8 hour shift) OR 5pm-3:30am (10 hour shift)

Essential Responsibilities :

As a Winder you will:

  • Perform mechanical disassembly, refurbish & reassembly of generator rotors in high quality and timely fashion using induction heating machines, large propane torches, overhead cranes and various hand and power tools (i.e., removal and installation of coupling, fans, retaining rings, blower hubs, wedges, blocking, copper coils)

  • Perform work according to technical drawings, work procedures and work orders with minimal supervision

  • Braze copper winding connectors either by propane torches, carbon resistance or induction heaters.

  • Perform and assist with all generator electrical diagnostic tests according to testing procedures.

  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues

  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and lean action work outs.

Required Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma / GED or Equivalent OR 2 years of relevant work experience

  • Knowledge of hand tools and various measuring devices

  • Experience using pneumatic and electrical tools (impact guns, grinders, saws, etc.)

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a mechanical or industrial field (examples: HVAC, Automotive repairs or manufacturing, Heavy Equipment repairs, Power Generation)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • All candidates must be willing and able to work 1st and 2nd rotating shifts for training.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening

  • Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a drug screen and background check.

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, including off-hours, weekends, and holidays

  • Ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds

  • Frequent standing & walking for 8 to 10 hour shifts

  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and kneeling

  • Ability to complete forklift certification

Desired Characteristics :

  • Associate’s Degree / Trade School Degree

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with large electrical motors, generators, or stators

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience brazing or welding

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience performing generator electrical diagnostic testing (winding resistance, insulation resistance, high potential testing)

  • Apprenticeship card from state certified apprenticeship programs

  • Previous forklift certification

  • Previous experience operating small cranes under 30 ton capacity

  • Previous experience with induction and/or torch brazing

  • Previous experience operating hydraulic jacks

Pay Transparency:

The pay for this position is $21.00 - $25.50+/ hour PLUS a $2.00/hour shift differential for 2nd shift. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This posting is expected to May 23, 2024 or thereafter

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
