Job Purpose: Uses knowledge of current developments in health care to develop progressive, clinical pharmacy programs; organizes clinical pharmacy programs to meet patient care needs; measures and reports performance of clinical pharmacy programs; oversees development of pharmacy staff to provide optimal patient care; and assists the Director of Pharmacy in the management of clinical pharmacy programs and staff.

• Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy • Residency training required • Board certification and specialty residency training preferred • Licensed as a registered pharmacist by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required.

Your Job Responsibilities :

• Can perform the duties of a staff pharmacist, clinical pharmacist, and/or clinical pharmacy specialist when necessary. • Consults and/or collaborates with healthcare professionals to evaluate, design, implement, monitor, and modify pharmacotherapy regimens based on standard of care and individual patient needs to ensure effective and safe patient care. • Knows the procedures and functions of areas related to patient care and is able to assist in any drug distribution area when needed, including the IV lab. • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Pharmacy profession. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. • Provides a lead role and serves as a resource person in answering therapeutic queries posed by administrative staff, pharmacy staff, medical staff, nursing staff, and other health care providers. • Provides education and mentoring to pharmacy staff through, but not limited to, individual patient cases, patient cases with more formal education regarding disease or drug therapy, or formal education programs such as continuing education programs. Educates healthcare professionals, residents, students, patients and the public regarding drug therapy. • Responsible for oversight of clinical pharmacists. Provides feedback and guidance throughout the year. Performs disciplinary actions as needed. • Serves as a member of the pharmacy leadership team. Evaluate and/or provides input for the performance evaluation of pharmacy staff. • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in pharmacy by attending seminars or workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations and maintaining licensure and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job. Assists in promoting Methodist Health System on a local, state, and/or national level, including publications, presentations, research collaboration or any activity that identifies Methodist Health System. • Supports and serves as a leader in the development and promotion of institution's pharmacotherapy protocols, clinical practice guidelines, and disease state management programs. Documents and reports outcomes related to cost effective pharmacotherapy.
