Description

Title : Registered Dietitian - Rhinebeck General Surgery - Rhinebeck, NY. Full Time/40 hours, 8 hour shifts, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Summary: Provides instruction, nutritional/dietary support, counseling, guidance and education to all patients entering the program. The RD serves as a resource to all patients and team-members. Population served based on scope of services in the department.

Education and Experience Requirements:

·Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent experience. Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or registration eligible. Must pass registration exam within 6 months of hire.

·Minimum experience: zero to six months. Preferred experience 2-years or more in the field of Dietetics and Nutrition as well as a Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

·State of New York Certification as a Dietitian/Nutritionist. For new grads, to be obtained as soon as RD exam has been passed.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs in person and telehealth initial and subsequent nutrition evaluations of medical and surgical weight loss patients, and documents encounters using program center templates.

  2. Assesses patient’s current nutritional status, nutrition-related biochemical parameters, eating patterns, lifestyle, exercise and structured activity.

  3. Provides nutrition education to patients, including pre and postop Bariatric Stage surgical diets, macro and micronutrients, prophylactic and replacement vitamin therapy, all according to literature-based center and program parameters. Provides patients with appropriate meal plans, proper food intake and food preparation, and sets behavioral goals while monitoring, guiding, and supporting the patients throughout the surgical and nonsurgical process.

  4. Understands the required elements of documentation in regards to the nutrition assessment for preauthorization for Bariatric surgery. Has understanding and knowledge of the various Bariatric procedures.

  5. Conducts inpatient visit postop to Bariatric patients prior to discharge for enforcement and teach-back of Bariatric Stage diets and advancement, and to answer any questions. Conducts inpatient visits to any extended LOS Bariatric patient. Collaborates and provides education to inpatient dietitians.

  6. Leads the dietary management of the non-surgical patient which includes: guiding patients through setting nutrition goals, creating meal plans, setting macro and calorie goals, being familiar with prescribed anti-obesity medications. Directs and guides patients through different nutritional plans in collaboration with the Provider, which includes but is not limited to Mediterranean Diet, Ketogenic/Low Carbohydrate Meal Plans, Plant Based Diets, and Meal Replacement programs.

  7. Assesses patient’s readiness to learn, motivation, and ability to participate in a weight loss program, and presents any cases of concern to Provider and Team for a collaborative determination of next steps or intervention, and determines whether the nutrition intervention/plan of care is being implemented as prescribed.

  8. Leads center and program related support groups and all the related activities such as site/platform, email reminders and invitations, theme and discussion facilitation.

  9. Creates educational materials and participates in program development, and stays current with obesity and Bariatric related literature.

  10. Possesses a high level of analytic skills to interpret laboratory data under the guidance of the patient Provider.

  11. Possesses excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse patient population, physicians, APPs, and other staff members while working effectively and developing collegial relationships.

  12. Exhibits organizational, time management and multitasking skills, and be self-motivated and able to work autonomously.

  15. Performs other duties as required.

Salary Range:

$27.9072 - $51.8262 hourly (Pay per years of relative experience)
