Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position.

Research and tests polymeric materials and components used in the development of telecommunications products. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Major responsibilities and tasks of the position.

  • Conduct research and tests on polymeric materials and components, ensuring they are of highest quality and meet the requirements for the development of telecommunications products

  • Analyze and interpret data from test results and research studies, identifying key factors that will influence the production process

  • Develop and implement innovative strategies for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the polymer processing operations

  • Ensure compliance with the industry standards and regulations regarding the use and handling of polymeric materials

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in troubleshooting problems and implementing solutions.

  • Document and report on research findings, test results, and process improvements

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in polymer science and incorporate them into the production process where applicable

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers

Education.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or similar

  • Certifications or relevant coursework such as Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Physics, Polymer Extrusion process, thermodynamics, etc

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or related field

Work Experience

  • +5 years of technical experience in manufacturing or researching environment related to polymer science, material science or chemical engineering

  • Proven experience in data analysis and problem solving related to polymeric materials and applications

  • Preferred: Experience in process engineering, particularly related to the production and development of telecommunications products
