ICF 2025 Summer Intern, Distributed Energy Analytics (Masters, Remote) in Reston, Virginia

Description

We are hiring for an intern to work in our DER Analytics practice. You will contribute to the enhancement of analytical capabilities of the team, develop subject matter expertise in the DER (i.e., energy efficiency, demand response, solar and storage to name a few) technologies and help support utilities and/or government agencies boost their DER programs to meet the demands of the future. As part of your role, you will have opportunities to apply your academic knowledge while interacting with experts and clients in the field. Our interns are provided with training to develop consulting skills as well as specialized skillsets in the DER space, in an environment that fosters growth.

This is a fully-remote, 10-week internship program that begins in early June 2025 and ends in early August. Individuals may work from any U.S. location. We are unable to offer relocation nor housing assistance at this time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and enhance quantitative and economic analyses that assess Distributed Energy Resources (DER) value

  • Support the development of internal- and external-facing tools and workflows that enable strategic decision-making process​

  • Assist with market research on various DER technologies and programs, and gather data to benchmark DER program​s ​

  • Manage and analyze large datasets using advanced Excel functions; presenting analytical outputs using PowerBI, R and/or Python visualization tools

  • Contribute to the preparation of client presentations and short reports to stakeholders ​

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program within Energy Management, Energy Policy and Planning, Public Policy, Economics or other closely related subject

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including knowledge of basic programming

  • A passion for the energy industry, with specific interest in DERs

  • Experience with data handling in advanced Excel

  • Intermediate to Advanced programming/scripting skills in R or Python

  • Experience with energy modeling tools (e.g., OpenStudio, EnergyPlus)

  • Demonstrates trustworthiness and upholds the highest ethical standards

  • Ensures that information flows effectively to others

  • Identifies, collects, and analyzes the information needed to solve a problem effectively

  • Clearly expresses ideas, thoughts, and concepts in writing

  • Strong writing and communication skills, and ability to organize written work in a manner that is clear, easy to follow, and tailored for the intended audience

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$39,435.00 - $67,040.00
