Jacobs is seeking a temporary and part-time entry-level scientist or engineer to join our team in support of our Research Laboratory Support (RLS) contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) located in Research Triangle Park, NC. This early career professional will have the opportunity to continually learn and develop new skill sets as research objectives change. The ideal candidate enjoys teamwork and working in a flexible environment. Due to the Federal location of this opportunity, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Performing duties as assigned in conjunction with project leaders.

  • Must be available for any combination of two of these three days: Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. Available to work 16-18 hours a week. This is a temporary position for up to 12 months.

  • Contributing on a variety of research tasks. Examples include:

  • Operation and evaluation of air quality measurement technologies in laboratory and field environments.

  • Soil and dust sieving for inorganic analysis.

  • Acid extraction/digestion on a variety of soil samples.

  • Clean and maintain laboratory glassware.

  • Follow all safety procedures related to assigned tasks.

  • Reviewing data to ensure compliance with project data quality goals and to identify areas for improvement in the quality system.

  • Notifies Project Manager and Laboratory Manager of quality issues and documents appropriately.

  • Helping process large data sets using available software packages including R, Python and Excel.

  • Originating and/or revising standard operating procedures, quality assurance plans, and work plans as related to research tasks.

  • Reviewing data to ensure compliance with project data quality goals and to identify areas for improvement in the quality system.

  • Documenting activities and recording observations in record books in accordance with quality assurance project plans.

  • Maintaining hard-copy and/or electronic records of measurement results and reporting in accordance with Jacobs and EPA records management protocols.

  • Performing laboratory work in accordance with established Jacobs and EPA safety and quality assurance protocols.

Here’s what you’ll need :

Citizenship: Due to the context of this position candidates must be U.S. Citizens.

Years of experience: 0-2 years

Education : B.S. degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as Environmental Science, Technology or Engineering.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Laboratory experience through coursework, internship and/or prior work experience.

· Ability to function effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere.

· Ability to work independently when necessary.

· Proficient with basic computer applications such as MS Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications :

Fluency with a programming language i.e., Python and/or R
