Labcorp Cytogenetics Technologist Trainee/Technologist - Will Train! in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The Integrated Genetics Division is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist to join their Cytogenetics team! Assays performed in the Cytogenetics Department utilize a variety of scientific techniques, including specimen culturing, slide preparation, and chromosome analysis.

Participate in LabCorp's in-house training program for the field of Cytogenetics. Receive in depth training and preparation for the ASCP board examination and ASCP-CG certification. Training program is a two year commitment and requires signing a training reimbursement agreement.

The schedule for this position will be: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Responsibilities:

  • Performing culture initiation, harvesting of cells, staining slides from amniotic fluid, peripheral blood, CVS and POC specimens

  • Analysis of chromosomes, which may include imaging and karyotyping of cytogenetic specimens, and running of the automated metaphase finder

  • Review test requisitions to gather pertinent details for analysis as needed and summarizes test results utilizing ISCN nomenclature

  • Performing QA/QC duties in the lab

  • Performing routine preventative maintenance on lab equipment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science (or 24 credits in Chemistry/Biology constituting a biological science major) as required by CLIA

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level

  • Previous experience is not required at the Technologist Trainee level

  • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
