Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for industrializing new product development and maintaining efficient production of current manufactured products through collaboration with cross-functional partners across the entire organization. They are fundamental to our mission to industrialize new products, and continuously improve our existing processes and product yield. In addition, they lead and support projects related to machinery PLC program updates, electro-mechanical systems improvements, new material/vendor validation, and novel manufacturing methods.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design for Manufacturing: Works with product designers, supply chain, production, and Operations teams to achieve lowest cost designs through implementation of manufacturing best practices.
  • Materials Selection: Ensures product materials are appropriate for existing machinery and processes, and validates new materials or vendors as needed.
  • Process Development: Develops manufacturing processes and equipment, including identification of objectives, review of alternatives, proof of concept, and leadership of cross-functional development and implementation processes. Estimates labor cost on new and updated components and drives adherence to those costs through product commercialization.
  • Project Management: Leads a cross-functional team in project managing new product development from beginning of product commercialization through product launch and maintains all aspects of project timeline.
  • Process Improvement: Implements program changes in machinery to maintain lowest cost solutions. Benchmarks existing process performance and examines and implements methods to improve. Designs modifications and upgrades to existing equipment and processes for new product development and continuous improvement projects.
  • Documentation: Updates Non-Compliance Reports, Bills of Material, Bills of Labor and other documents related to manufacturing operations to reflect best practices.
  • Training: Creates and maintains Work Instructions to train Production Operators on the safest, most efficient way to make products.
  • Production Scaling: Builds and implements plans to efficiently increase capacity as demand sees and flows.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Looks to solve underlying problems with manufacturing processes and equipment to keep smaller issues from repeatedly manifesting.
  • Cost Benefit Analysis: Determines most cost-effectiveness of existing processes and implementations of new processes or improvements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 4-year degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering; or 6 years equivalent experience required
  • Project management experience
  • Computer experience and knowledge of Microsoft applications required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • CAD experience preferred, ideally familiar with Solidworks and/or AutoCAD
  • Expertise in common manufacturing techniques including but not limited to injection/compression molding, casting, sheet metal, machined parts, textile welding, cut and sew
  • Competence and familiarity with basic shop/lab tools and procedures
  • Continuous improvement mindset - lean experience is highly desirable

Skills:

Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to perform professional engineering assignments of wide variety and moderate level complexity under general direction, given experience level. A basic understanding of m chanical engineering principles as they relate to manufacturing equipment and tooling.

Programming Aptitude: Ability to lead programming related tasks to introduce, modify, upgrade, or improve existing PLC and HMI programs to ensure machinery is operating optimally and able to support novel manufacturing techniques to support new product development

Work Management: Exhibits project management and organizational skills, acute attention to detail and consistent on-time delivery of expectations. Experience in executing multiple projects concurrently

Fostering Innovation: Looks beyond the norm in developing new product or practices and embraces necessary change

Problem Solving: Effectively analyzes all aspects of a problem, gathers necessary data, consults others, makes an informed decision and communicates it to the appropriate people

Engineering Analysis: Performs technical analysis such as manufacturing analysis, PFMEA, FEA, Flow Analysis, tolerance studies

Prototype Fabrication: Capable of fabricating product concepts through multiple methods such as; 3D printing, vertical mill, lathe, general shop tools, fabric welding tools
