Classification Description Summary

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this band may monitor the work of lower level staff and are responsible for program/service results. Work tasks

require problem solving on a regular basis, analysis of information and/or specialized knowledge of assigned area.

Incumbents may work in isolation during assigned shift and/or have oversight on multiple locations.

Work Schedule

  • Less than 233 hours per quarter and may be year round or

  • 233 hours or more in a quarter with a maximum of six months employment or

  • Not to exceed 1,039 work hours within any fiscal year

Essential Functions

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees the facility, programs, and staff during assigned hours.

  • Monitors water conditions and initiates necessary adjustments.

  • Enforces policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and staff.

  • Inspects facilities and equipment to ascertain conditions and ensure safety.

  • Trains staff on the duties of operating a pool facility and guarding the pool.

  • Implements special events.

  • Monitors attendance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Age : 16

Experience: One year of paid lifeguard experience and one year of paid supervisor e xperience

Certifications: Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Water Safety Instructor

Licenses: Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications: Lifeguard Training Instructor, Instructor Trainer, Certified Pool Operator

Working Conditions

  • Conveys and exchanges verbal and written information.

  • Walking, standing, sitting and performing swimming rescues.

  • Walking on various surfaces including uneven ground that may be slippery.

  • Work may be performed outdoors in a variety of weather extremes.

  • Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.

  • May come into contact with pool chemicals.

  • May work evenings, weekends and holidays.
