APTIM Marketing Director -- Energy Solutions in Remote, Michigan

Job Overview:

APTIM's Energy Solutions Group seeks an experienced Energy Program Marketing Director, with significant consulting and project management experience, to grow and support our energy efficiency, cleantech and distributed energy resource related business. This is an opportunity for a director-level professional looking to further advance their career with a global environmental leader, and to make a significant impact in successfully implementing APTIM's global energy strategy. As a leader on this team, you will possess technical and operational expertise in the EE/DER field; extensive marketing, customer service and operational background, staff management and development, new program launch and/or emerging technology areas and be fully accountable for successfully managing client relationships, delivering successful outcomes for our clients, the communities they serve and our company.

APTIM's Energy Solutions team is a recognized leader in the marketplace. Our energy experts deliver highly innovative projects and complex client solutions providing the full breadth of solutions including energy efficiency, energy management, carbon management, smart infrastructure, and distributed energy resources (DER). Our consultants proactively collaborate with clients to define and implement strategies and programs around key business drivers, with the primary focus of finding and delivering high impact outcomes that exceed expectations and meet the unique needs of our government, utility, and commercial clients.

As a senior leader on this team, your primary function as the Marketing Director will be to ensure best practices, excellence and innovation and measurable results are delivered by our existing program marketing staff on behalf of our clients. The successful candidate will lead, either directly or through their team, the marketing strategy and planning for established programs and start-up initiatives for new projects/programs, targeting all aspects of marketing interactions. Outstanding leadership and communication skills are required as this individual will have interactions with multiple stakeholders, including existing and prospective clients, the APTIM team and partners.

The successful Marketing Director will have demonstrated ability to practically solve problems as they arise while simultaneously seeing the 'big picture' and drive continuous improvement. This role may involve direct engagement with utilities (regulated and non-regulated), municipalities/cooperatives, government agencies, large national companies, and cross-selling energy management strategies to established APTIM customers across the enterprise. This position may be remote or based in one of APTIM's offices.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Lead a team of marketing professionals to effectively deliver successful marketing projects to our clients through strategic guidance, resource planning and management, establishing standards, best practices and resources and aligning with corporate marketing standards and initiatives.

  • Possess excellent working knowledge of program management combined with client insight to effectively design and deliver comprehensive marketing strategies.

  • Develop and implement strategic marketing, customer engagement and operational plans that will elevate the customer experience of new and existing programs, ideally for utility, state or local government programs.

  • Oversee the creation and deployment of marketing campaigns including collateral, website content, social media content, presentations, webinar scripts, FAQs, program workflows and one pagers.

  • Work closely with business development team to highlight program successes in the industry via case studies, speaking engagements, conference participation, etc. Manage all marketing aspects of new programs including project planning, staffing, budgeting, create tasks and direction for the staff, manage project and client through ramp-up phase of the project.

  • Work with Project operations staff to enhance the company's client relationships and program performance.

  • Develop processes and procedures to coincide with client and program expectations and deliverables by effectively create resource plan to maximize the productivity of people, and technology resources.

  • Monitor market conditions, innovations, and trends to evolve energy efficiency and cleantech marketing approaches.

  • Anticipate and interpret customer needs to identify solutions while relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure all marketing goals are being achieved.

  • Prepare presentations for internal team and client meetings.

  • Direct program marketing staff regarding client strategy and market channel development activity.

  • Provide mentorship to marketing team staff across the Energy Solutions group.

  • Travel to and participate in industry events including regional and national conferences to expand market awareness of APTIM's services and programmatic successes, active participant on the company capabilities presentation team with prospects and customers.

  • Oversees and evaluates market research and adjusts marketing strategy to meet changing market, competitive conditions related to marketing activities.

  • Implement effective methods of tracking and analysing results of marketing efforts across all projects to support continuous improvement of marketing impacts for our clients.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills expected.

  • Travels as necessary to perform duties, up to 25%.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure compliance with all APTIM and client quality and safety policies as well as all OSHA regulations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent work experience.

  • Proven experience developing and maintaining relationships with key decision makers and internal and external partner organizations.

  • Experience and confidence to lead business in a dynamic market environment.

  • 10+ years' combined marketing and program experience related to energy program management, implementation, or administrative oversight.

  • Well established reputation and recognized technical expertise by the marketplace.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to build, coach, and mentor collaborative teams.

  • Excellent communication (written/verbal), strategic thinking, negotiation, presentation, and "people" skills.

  • Fluently understanding of DSM programs, Distributed Energy Resources, power generation and other efficiency solutions or emerging trends in the utility industry.

  • Strong quantitative and analytic capabilities including memorandum writing and spreadsheet analysis.

  • Working knowledge of the policy and regulatory influences on energy efficiency and utility programming

  • Must be a self-starter, organized and have an ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient Microsoft Office software.

  • Experience in the design, development, and implementation of energy efficiency and/or cleantech program marketing.

  • Tangible and documented project management experience.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years' experience in the energy efficiency and/or cleantech industry preferred.

  • Proven experience developing and maintaining relationships with key decision makers at utilities, state or local government partners.
