GE Vernova Lead EHS Specialist - North America Onshore Wind Projects & Services in Remote, New Mexico
Job Description Summary
The General Electric Renewable Energy Onshore Wind North America (GE RE ONW NAM) team is searching for competent and motivated Lead EHS Specialists to help build an industry leading EHS team. The Lead EHS Specialist role is a hybrid role (both in the office and the field) that supports the GE onshore wind construction and repowering project business in North America.
A Lead EHS Specialist works to execute the vision and strategy set forth by the NAM Projects Leader and will promote a fair, reporting and learning EHS culture. Lead EHS Specialists will manage Site Safety Professionals (SSPs) and provide active support to their assigned project sites. This role will apply proficient subject matter expertise in their respective EHS discipline(s) using Human Performance Improvement (HOP) principles to produce innovative EHS solutions along with program, policy & process improvements to support the GE RE ONW NAM business.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Execute the vision and strategy administered by the NAM EHS Leader.
Facilitate the execution of all applicable EHS policies and programs from the EHS Leader on project sites.
Perform rollouts of new and revised EHS policies and programs.
Provide on call EHS support and guidance to the business as needed.
Responsible for the EHS program/policy development of your respective EHS disciplines.
Act as subject matter expert (SME) for your respective EHS disciplines.
Perform Work Instruction EHS reviews and revisions.
Perform Risk Assessments, reviews, and revisions.
Conduct Site Audits and reviews.
Conduct Event Analyses (investigations) for high severity or high severity potential injuries, illnesses, property damages, spills, near misses, etc.
Support SSPs in their execution of Event Analyses.
Support SSPs, Site Managers and Project Managers via site staffing of SSP personnel.
Support SSPs via day to day management, training, and performance evaluation of assigned GE & Contractor SSP personnel.
Provide coaching/improvement plans to assigned GE & Contractor SSP personnel.
Perform assigned EHS software application tasks for given permission levels (i.e., Gensuite, Complyworks, Box, etc.)
Provide EHS software application support to assigned GE & Contractor SSP personnel.
Attend and contribute content to mandatory recurring and impromptu EHS meetings and conferences.
Attend and contribute to mandatory recurring and impromptu Operations and non-EHS meetings / conferences.
Provide EHS representation on Project kick-off meetings and improvement initiatives (when applicable) for assigned projects.
Required Qualifications
Must meet one of the following:
High School Diploma / GED with a minimum 5 years of direct, full time EHS experience in EHS OR general industry.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university/college in occupational safety and health and 3 years of direct, fulltime EHS Experience in EHS Or general industry.
Certified by BCSP (ASP, CSP, CIH or CHST)
Valid (up to date) OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry OR OSHA #501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically capable of climbing a wind turbine and performing confined space entry on a regular basis.
Must be capable of using turbine fall protection systems, including maintaining weight for such systems to be effective: maximum personal weight limit of 250 lbs.
Must be willing/able to travel throughout North America 50-75% of the time.
Desired Qualifications
Must be formally trained in how to perform Event Analysis / Incident Investigations in a recognized investigation methodology (i.e., Taproot, Apollo, Fishbone).
Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited university/college in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) or other related field (e.g., Engineering).
Proficient written communication skills.
Employee management experience.
Contractor personnel management experience.
Proficient written communication skills.
Competent understanding of how Event Analyses / Incident Investigations are managed and conducted.
Competent understanding of NFPA 70E and OSHA Electrical Safety standards along with overseeing & implementing Electrical Safety programs. Must be able to recognize and control electrical safety hazards.
Competent understanding of Energy Isolation / Lockout Tagout (LOTO) regulations along with overseeing & implementing LOTO programs. Must be able to recognize and control energy related safety hazards.
Competent understanding of Work at Heights, Fall Protection and Rescue regulations along with overseeing & implementing Work at Heights programs. Must be able to recognize and control work at heights safety hazards.
Competent understanding of Crane, Rigging & Lifting regulations along with overseeing & implementing crane, rigging and lifting programs. Must be able to recognize and control crane/rigging/lifting safety hazards.
Competent understanding of Industrial Mobile Equipment, Trenching & Excavation regulations along with overseeing & implementing such programs. Must be able to recognize and control related safety hazards.
Must be capable of exhibiting professional conduct daily, be an effective verbal & non-verbal communicator and be capable of utilizing technology / software (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, 365, data entry etc.)
The base pay range for this position is $85,500 - $142,500 USD Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for variable incentive compensation of 10%. This posting is expected to close no earlier than October 16, 2024.
*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
