VetsEZ Software Developer (Remote Opportunity) in Remote, North Carolina

VetsEZ is seeking a highly talented Software Developer who will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting software in a variety of programming languages. This developer also applies interactive and visual design principles to provide a cohesive user experience. The ideal candidate will have a web development background and knowledge of building responsive web design and development features.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

  • Create strategies for developing IT systems and applications.

  • Evaluate alternative approaches and select optimal approaches.

  • Design, develop and participate in coding activities.

  • Lead migration of Direct Secure Messaging (DSM), a VA healthcare web application, to AWS GovCloud, resulting in system up-time of 99%.

  • Build a PHP 8 and CodeIgniter 4 API from scratch using REST and SOAP protocols to transport secure messages, attach healthcare records, and search for healthcare providers.

  • Upgrade DSM from PHP 7 to PHP 8, reducing page load times by 40%.

  • Automate DSM installation and configuration on Linux using Bash.

  • Create environments (EC2 Instances) in AWS for different VPCs, with an RDS database per VPC.

  • Work closely with stakeholders to work out new requirements and prioritize current. needs, keeping DSM as a whole pointed in a consistent direction.

  • Resolve root issues at every layer in the stack - PHP (CodeIgniter 3), jQuery, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, NGINX, Apache Web Server, Linux, AWS, and SQ.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Electronics. Engineering, or other Engineering or technical discipline.

  • At least 5 years of experience developing.

  • Experience with the Department of Veteran Affairs.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of modern software development and DevOps tools including GitHub and implementation of a DevOps pipeline in a cloud environment.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in the VA or other health-related organizations desired.

  • Experience with VA Health Portfolio and Informatics Product Line is a plus.

  • Experience in Data Integration Modernizations and Secure Messaging is a plus.

  • Ability to obtain a government clearance.
