Job Description Summary

The Field Service Engineer - Automation under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of engineering tasks and ensures proper installation, service and commissioning of products and services. Provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects and provides maintenance, breakdown emergency support and remote troubleshooting.

Essential Responsibilities:

As a Field Service Engineer - Automation, you will:

  • Perform a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE automation systems at site locations during ship construction.

  • Performs troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled Port visits or at sea to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implements corrective actions.

  • Develop requisite documentation to execute work e.g. commissioning procedures, maintenance procedures daily logs etc.

  • Execute on site project management and technical leader duties to resolve customer issues and provide customer satisfaction.

  • Develop presentations and provides training and instruction to customers.

  • Coordinate additional opportunities to serve the customer with the customer service team, parts, other FSE’s, repair services, sales, and product engineering teams.

  • Advise the customer of recommended upgrades, parts, and service opportunities to improve customer productivity and sell GE parts and services

  • Coordinate maintenance activities for the customer and planning for inspections

  • Provide support to engineering teams working on customer modernization projects.

  • Provide support the bidding process for the customer modernization projects.

  • Provide on call support in response to customer calls for service

  • Complete timely service reports and other administrative requirements

  • Perform work on-board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in shipyards or offshore.

  • Extended hours / overtime maybe required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.

  • Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum 2 additional years of related industry experience)

  • Minimum of 5 years of field service and/or commissioning experience in a field service / commissioning environment with automation systems in a marine environment.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • US Citizen with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects.

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 85% of the time​ on short notice.

  • Must be physically fit to be able to board vessels offshore.

  • Must be able to pass a HUET and offshore survival course which includes activities in a swimming pool.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Possesses leadership qualities that align with GE behaviors.

  • Background in a customer facing position within a Service environment.

  • Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments, which require considerable engineering skill and creative ability and independent judgment.

  • Strong computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office applications.
